Rank Brimah's ST Joe shot

Would that really be an absurd thing to say? It was a buzzer beater in the NC game down three to go to overtime, where they eventually won.

Watch out or they're going to think you're a Kansas fan.

Ironically (I think?), I watched the first 3/4ths of that game at the Bidwell and left with like 8 minutes left, and so I missed that shot.

Probably the second most iconic shot in program history, right behind Tate's, which is, un-coincidentally, known as 'THE shot'.

Why don't you tell us again about all the posters calling every young player the next UConn superstar just because one poster relayed Shabazz Napier's comment about TSam being the next great UConn guard?

Whats wild about the shot is just how much space he created... there's like 7 feet between him and the nearest defender. McGhee fell right in line with where the help defender was lol. Ive never seen a game winning shot taken that wide open on any stage at any level.

.-.
For those who remember, another clutch Tate shot: 1988 1st Round NIT at WVU. If Tate doesn't hit a late game-tying jumper to force OT, UConn's a one & done. But we all know how 1988 & beyond played out.

"The Shot" still has to be the most clutch imo.

The real truth is that "The Shot" led us to our 4 Championships.

Look at the aftermath, that Shot started something that couldn't be stopped!

I've been told by several non-American friends that Americans love to rank things. I answer by saying that ranking tells us just how much awe and emotion the play deserves during the replay and water cooler discussions the next day:) Anyway, if you go by pure emotion during the game it is a different perspective. The Kemba shot against McGhee, while my third favorite, was over too quickly and decisively to be the best. We knew for almost certain he was taking it so there wasn't a lot of question with it. But what a shot. As my avatar suggests, KW is my favorite Husky.
The Rip shot against Washington seemed to stop my heart for minutes on end as it kept falling off and being shot and tipped and falling and hit out and shot, etc. so its my number two shot. Plus, I believe that shot is more of the face of the Huskies - always shown during NCAA highlights for its excitement factor.
The Tate shot had the timeout just before it so anticipation built up, although I never thought we had a chance. Plus everything about that shot was phenomenal from the pass to the spin around, to the swish to the increased status level of the program after. It did a lot for the program. Wish I had it in HD.
Those are my top three. Brimah's shot was great but not on tier with these, IMHO. Kid is going to have more to come for us to categorize and put into boxes. It's nice to be a Husky fan and be able to choose from a library of big time shots that have won games and tournaments.

4) Hamilton vs. Washington
3) The Shot
2) Emeka's put back. Thing is, if Emeka misses this, UConn was still a Final Four team.
1) Brimah - This play wins us #4. Without it, UConn is a first round loser. Biggest single shot in UConn program history. So there.
The only thing that defines Brimah's shot differently, is the timing of the game / when it happened...'The shot' was in the regional semi-finals, Emeka in the national semi-finals...Brimah's shot was in a 1st round tourney game between #7 and #10 seeds. Without the knowledge of what ultimately happened, it doesn't appear to as important as it ended up being.

Is this how this is going to be now? You're going to follow me around the board to criticize me for not being rah-rah enough?

It was a poor man's version of Emeka's rebound and put back against Duke in '04.

I loved Emekas description of that play afterwards. I can't remember exact quote so I'll paraphrase:

"Well I saw an Orange orb just floating out there. I figured it would be a good idea to just grab it and put it in the basket"

Frickin' Mek. Always did operate on a different plane than the rest of us mere mortals.

It was a nice shot, but how many are going to remember it in a few years. It just doesn't match the excitement generated from the other great shots. On the other hand, there was never a shot that had the impact that Brimah's three point play has made on our program. If we lose to St. Joe's, it proves to the naysayers that we are a program on the downturn and soon to become irrelevant. Just think of all that writing material Nelsonmuntz would have had and he supposedly is a fan of the Huskies. The shot is worth it just so we didn't have to hear about how he saw it coming. We could have overcome the setback, but Ollie sure would have had to work much harder to combat the negative recruiting . Other shots can be argued to have made our program, but Brimah's saved it.

But we do have knowledge of what ultimately happened. UConn did not trail in the last 12 minutes of any other game in the 2014 NCAA Tournament. Kentucky got close at the end and Iowa State was chucking them in from half court, but basically UConn had a working second half lead in every game the rest of the way. On the other hand, UConn was on its way out of that St. Joe's game when Brimah made that play.

I AB didn't make that play, some people would still be questioning if KO is the right coach for us. Add the karate chop to that fact and that plays is solidly in my top 5. In addition to the classics already mentioned, Ray's pull-up to beat G-town for the BE championship has to be in the top 5.

Excellent point. Imagine the ammo freescooter and co. would have if KO's team got bounced by St. freakin Joe's in the first round in Buffalo.

The fact that they players all said JC told them, more than once - "We're going to win this game, we're going to win this game. We didn't come all this way to lose, we're going to win this game….."………then UConn basketball was actually beginning in just "1 second"………..because of the overall significance, national attention, great team and UConn dominance beginning, The Shot will always be #1 to me

He hit the first one, though, so I give him some credit. That loss wasn't on him.

But as a program? Yeah. That miss hurt.
Not a missed shot, but Tate failing to grab the nearly intercepted pass vs Dook in 1990 and shovel it into the front court was a huge hit. Kept the final four barrier out there (probably doubled its thickness & height) for another 9yrs.

I agree with Fishy, this is one of the best shots, maybe ahead of the other one or slightly behind it. Just like this thread, one of the worst, a little better than the other and worse than that other one.

You should try to enjoy the conversation and debate. That's what a forum is. We don't make import business or life decisions here so we shouldn't be too critical. Being light-hearted and funny is one thing, and is enjoyable. But being critical of BB forum topic is petty. I know I'm not going to be a just because this is the internet. No offense but don't post if you don't like the topic.
