Random: Did Geno recruit Alaina Coates?

It looks like he didn't. Who DID he recruit from 2013? I know he recruited bigs Reimer and McCall.

I ask about Coates b/c she was considered one of the top 5 freshmen this year and we know Geno recruited Kalana out of South Carolina. And if Coates didn't go to South Carolina, I don't think Staley would have had a shot at Jatarie White (who wanted to play on a team with where she wouldn't have to play the 5), and if White didn't pick South Carolina, I don't think A'ja Wilson goes there either (b/c she wanted to be able to play the 3 AND there just wouldn't have been as much other talent).

It seems odd that Geno only went after Reimer (considered a UND lean from the start, IIRC) and McCall (for whom all signs pointed to Stanford from pretty early and isn't as good as some of her other classmates that Geno didn't seem to pursue like Coates and Chidom).

Who knows - maybe she had no interest in Uconn. You do not just pick the players you want and recruit them - they have to have some interest in your program before anything can get to the 'recruiting' stage.

Not sure if UConn ever actually showed interest in Coates or not, but she seemed pretty set on staying in the southeast. Her final list was SC, Tennessee and Georgia, I believe.

She wanted to stay in the South. Her home town is about 10 miles from USC.

Reimer was considered a ND lean from the start? I may be misremembering, but I thought she wanted to verbal at one point to UCONN, but Geno said "not yet" as it was too early.

Alaina is from a suburb of Columbia and her dad has been in the army or national guard and away from home a lot. It's my understanding she is very close to her dad and wanted to be close to him when he was at home, so I'm sure she told far away programs that she wouldn't be interested. I knew Alaina was a good recruit, but she definitely exceeded my expectations this season.

Coates will be an AA before she graduates. Many freshmen bigs are not very skilled but she certainly is. I love her game.
