Current Favorites For 4 Number One Seeds:

Arizona: 1 NET
UConn: 6 NET
Michigan: 3 NET
Duke: 2 NET

The biggest thing we have going for us is we currently have 3 wins in the Top 12 of the NET (Illinois, Florida, Kansas) either on neutral courts or on the road. Our only loss is to the Number 1 team in the country, when we were down to 2 starters. We have a better resume than Illinois (partially because of a head to head result) and we have the same amount of Q1 wins as Iowa St, with 1 less loss.

I list the remaining challenging games for all the teams considered in the different tiers. Some of these games listed may not be great teams, but I considered anyone who might be even remotely bubble worthy. More than any year I can remember, the schedules of most of these teams in contention for the 1 line are back loaded, especially in the Big 12. There will be a ton of movement this month.

Houston is an interesting case. I could see rewarding them playing in Houston as a 1 seed. But as a 2 or 3 seed, how is that fair to the top 2 seeds in that region? But I can see the committee doing that...

Gary tends to try and be different and changes his view weekly. He picked StJ his number one team preseason. That's not an outlandish take - I'd say any combo of the top 6 teams is a valid pick. UM, AZ, UConn, Houston, Duke, Illinois are reasonable guesses.

Well said. Especially this year I don’t see a major difference between most 3 seeds and 4 seeds. I’d rather a better geographical path than a higher seed. 2 seed in East > 1 seed in South (west is 99% going to Zona and Midwest to Michigan)

My first answer without thinking is 2 in the east. Either way though you (probably) end up with either Houston or Duke in the Elite 8 right? I think of the two UConn matches up better against Duke. Also Kelvin Sampson is a great coach.

Playing there as a 1 is fine. Playing as a 2 is a travesty for the 1, whoever it is.

Chatgpt only found a few isolated instances of a 2 playing in their home market, and claimed the committee tries to avoid that so as not to disadvantage the 1. Any insights?

I’ve mentioned in some other thread how Houston got Purdue in Indianapolis last year in the 1v4 matchup in the Sweet Sixteen. So I’m not holding my breath on the committee avoiding a similar situation again. The fact that they made Rice the host back in the summer felt intentional. Basically a “sorry we gave you a road game against Purdue, this year you get to play at home” type of thing.
