Looks like it will soon go the way of the Dodo bird. Ironicly, When I was out at a wedding in El Paso 3 years ago, my wife & I toured the campus of New Mexico State, which is only about 30 miles away. We remarked how similar it was to UConn's campus, what with it's big College of Agriculture & all the dairy cattle. Looks like the Aggies will be left out on an island between UTEP & UNM.http://www.cbssports.com/collegefoo...-large-wac-on-its-death-bed-and-thats-a-shame

its one less mouth to feed. the mwc should take all those schools and goto 14 or 16. thats 1 less check that the bcs hands out and the BE pay goes up a small amount. good.

Here we go again. Yeah because there's nothing like adding 2 crappy programs.

MWC will have 9 full + Hawaii for FB if they add USU & SJSU. Only reason to add more is to shore up numbers in case they're worred about further BE expansion.

Hmm, wonder if Boise will go back to the Big Sky?

Oh and I love how Delaney gets blamed. Um, if I'm not mistaken, it was Mr Swofford who started this.

The NBE will expand west eventualy. The MWC will be all the leftovers out there together. Might as well do it now and get the best contract it possibly can then left things happen this summer.

The MWC would be stupid not to add Idaho and NMSU. Make them "buy in" over a period of years or some other economic break if that's what it takes to get the deal done, but the chance of the MWC getting raided again is pretty high, so they might as well have the teams in the league already, because if Idaho and NMSU are forced to drop down to FCS or go independent, their programs could be irrevocably damaged and not be available later on. Idaho and NMSU also get the league to 12 teams for football.

With New Mexico, UNLV, CSU, Nevada and NMSU, the MWC would still be a pretty good basketball league.

Hawaii has quietly gotten pretty screwed here. They had to agree to subsidize travel to the islands as part of leaving the WAC and joining the MWC. Unfortunately, it appears that the WAC has come to them, so they are now paying to subsidize a new league they were basically already in.

The death of the WAC creates a big problem for BYU. BYU was filling out their schedule with WAC schools, and was essentially an affiliate member from a scheduling perspective. They played 5 WAC teams last year and was going to play 4 this year. That would work well enough with an 8 team WAC, but now the WAC is gone, and teams like Utah State, SJSU, and Hawaii are going to be playing 8 game conference schedules, cutting down their OOC by 1, and Idaho and NMSU may be gone altogether.

Apparently BYU is very motivated to work something out with the Big 12, but that ship has sailed. Assembling a schedule will be close to impossible without an 8 team WAC in the picture. BYU may be forced into a league, which would be great for the Big East.

From your keyboard to God's ears. (Pun absolutely intended)

New Mexico State and Idaho have agreed to play nine games against each other in 2014.

The winner of the season series will win a bid to the new Still WACky Bowl where they will meet the loser of the New Mexico State-Idaho season series.

I think everyone is agreement that adding BYU helps the Big East in terms of quality of play, reputation, viewership and heft for bowl game line ups.

Air Force is good for most of that too.

Should your comment come to fruition, invite them both for all sports & take the football only moniker off of Boise & SDSU at the same time. I want every Big East member institution All in. If the CYO wing doesn't like it, they can join Butler in the A-10.

a west division of smu/uh/sdsu/bsu//byu/fresno/unlv could hold its own in all sports.

fball has bsu and byu/uh.
bball has sdsu/unlv and uh
baseball has fresno
etc etc with examples....

NMSU statement. You can feel the resignation bleeding from the pixels. No definitive statements about anything beyond 2013.

the big sky will all upgrade from fcs and that will be the wac basically.

That's just absurd on so many levels.

That would not only further marginalize UConn athletics, but would make the A-10 now the premiere basketball conference in America. We're lucky that schools like Villanova, Georgetown, ND, Marquette haven't done that already.

A bunch of glorified community colleges that play sub standard sports is not the direction UConn should be taking.
