You should have stopped there. I'm amazed with the certainty coming from everybody on this. Just last year, a similar majority declared that starting Fagnano was a mistake. A decision based on matters outside of on-field performance. This season, everyone had him as the clear starter out of camp although he's coming off a season-ending injury? After the same bunch found him lacking in the short time he did play? A bit too convenient for me.

He had slipped behind even Tucker in the depth chart. Fagnano will start again and we’ll be even better than last year

Ive been wondering if that might be the case. I'm also curious as to how Farrar looked in his first few months with the program.

I think he was a guy we had hopes for but even when he originally recruited some sites indicated that he was from a smaller school that played at a lower level of competition. So he was a risk. But that is the kind of guy we will take a chance on. Michigan or Texas won’t.

Didn't want to compete, and not being good enough are 2 VERY different things. If they don't want to compete, they shouldn't even bother playing.

What you initially implied was that he didn't even want to compete. That's a pretty damning for any athlete. If he knew he was leaving, as you suggest, maybe that's why he didn't bother.

Funny how everyone loves Fagnano now. Short memories of what people said on this board. Who's our backup QB now? I see we lost the 2023 CT Player of the Year to the portal. It's so hard to stay connected to college sports now when the rosters are constantly in flux.

Well Fagnano got mostly unfairly hammered in 2023 during his first few starts.

No one new how bad we really where with Joe was out there.

When he went out it went from bad to worse.

I think Joe’s stats are the story here - a lot to like - even Mora had to eventually come around…

Is this something you know for a fact? That’s a heck of a thing to say.

I don’t have any sour grapes about this at all. I think every school in FBS has a QB in the portal.

There were over 200 qbs in the portal. That’s not a source. That’s a fact for every single school out there. There is no one on earth who would even conceive of a an NOT leaving.

Hindsight is 20/20,,,,,but seeing the way the season ended, if Fagnano had been getting tue snaps as #1 throughout Fall camp and was starter from game #1........UConn ends up with two more wins.

Can you imagine how apoplectic this board would've been if Fagnano was the starter out of camp? The consensus on the board, until the second half of Maryland/Merrimack game was that Fagnano should never play another meaningful down of football at UConn.

Who knew Fagnano's intentions immediately after the bowl game and before New Years? That would leave most likely Welliver and Evers with Evers having head injury problems prior. Maybe he didn't want to be here after learning the B12 invite fell through IDK. I know what he said at the time of his commitment. Football and baseball coaches were telling recruits we were going to B12. Doubt they were the only ones in the AD doing that. It's practically a new team every year now. 40 in 40 out. Or more.

I haven't yet figured out how to unwind the gordian knot of "he couldn't beat out the guy ahead of him, but it's a terrible loss for the program" take either at QB or PG.

The days of developing a QB for 2 years are over. The play for everyone, and today it is everyone, is to redshirt a QB only if you have a Senior who won't be around the next year. If the redshirt isn't really, recruit the best QB out of the portal that you can and live with whatever the redshirt decides and move on.

There aren't many QB's around that wait two years then play in year 3 at any program. Not when 80% of the backups hit the portal every year.

You're right but when the source names a player 4 months before he enters the portal its a pretty good source.
