Once we got to halftime up 6 and Clingan with only one foul, was anyone seriously questioning whether UConn would win?

My wife found me obnoxious in my insistence there was zero chance of Purdue finishing under 13 points behind.

And now she's mad because I was right.

No, I said the same thing to anyone that would listen. Clingan only has one foul, Clingan has only one foul! It was like Christmas.

Props to the refs, they let them play but sheesh. Edey is allowed to do what he wants. There was the early arm thing when the game started with Clingan. There was the three point line thing and then there was the late game stuff when it was already over and they let Edey throw elbows into Karaban's neck.

Overall the refs let the players battle and decide the game without them being noticed. Edey got about 4 calls and I think we got 3. The refs were really good overall.

That shot you couldn't figure out how T Newt twisted around Edey was set up by Cam completely clearing a lane. 2.8 on the shot clock. If someone can post video of that play I'd appreciate it. This Team really played together as a symphony.

Everyone came to play today. Clingan and Samson did absolutely everything we needed of them. Even Karaban gave some great minutes at the 5. Coaching staff pulled all the right levers. All the guards showed how much bigger and more athletic they were than Purdue. What a freaking game…
55-17 we outscored Purdue in the backcourt.

This will never happen again I hope you all enjoyed it
Never say never but ive never seen anything like it in my lifetime of watching cbb and im pretty sure i wont live another 35 years to get a chance to see it. This is without a doubt the best team ive ever seen. Finally i can say 2004 is no longer the best Uconn team ive seen and UNLV 90 is no longer the best team ive seen.

In his defense, that team stinks outside of Edey. Smith is a pretty good PG but outside of that they're not good.

I was a little surprised that they run no action when Edey has a post touch. They just stand there and if there's a double he'll kick it out, but at least run some weakside action, etc.
I told some Purdue fans without Edey Purdue is an NIT team. Without Clingan Uconn became the #1 team in the country. I knew this wouldnt be close and it was over at about 10 min when we went up 56-40.

Same timeframe, this is the best team we've seen. I'm not sure all of us knew it when it was happening but now that they did it, it's the best. This was the best.

If anyone wants to talk about players staying longer in college back then. Cam just turned 24 and Tristen is an old man of college basketball. This is the best we've seen.

If it hasn't already been said they beat the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place Big Ten teams in the tourney, might as well put up a Big Ten champion banner up as well
Add in Indiana during the regular season for 4!

I really hope we all took a lot of time to reflect and appreciate this team as the season was happening. This was truly one of the most dominant teams I’ve ever seen play. 37-3 and NCAA champions. This is NOT normal.

Tristen Newton. The cool and calming presence. 20 points, 7 assists, 5 rebounds

Cam Spencer. He WANTED this. 8 rebounds, most in the game except for Edey.

Steph Castle. 90 foot defense all night. No fear from the freshman. 15 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists

Alex Karaban. Shot wasn’t falling so he crashed the boards for 3 offensive rebounds and played great defense all night.

Donovan Clingan. Matched up against the 2 time NPOY and made him WORK. I’ve never seen Edey that tired. He got his, but DC made him work for it, which opened up the game for us.

Hassan Diarra. 13 minutes but scored 9 points and had the same, lockdown defense as Castle.

Samson Johnson. Fouled out but didn’t back down. It takes guts to rise up for a dunk knowing Zach Edey is near by, and he had 2 electric ones.

Dan Hurley. There were 16 coaches in the history of the game with multiple titles. Now there’s 17. Dan Hurley has tied guys like Bill Self, Rick Pitino, Jay Wright, and Billy Donovan. Legendary company for a legendary coach.

Lets. Go. Huskies.
You forgot the greatest coach of all time. The man who got us started, Coach Jim Calhoun

Ask Gary Parrish. Who right through yesterday kept going to that argument. If I ever see him I'd ask him if he has 2 eyes.

He'll probably say if Purdue had gotten it's rightful #1 overall and worn white, they would have won.

Just woke up. Had this insane dream last night at UConn blew out Purdue to win back to back titles lmao. Pretty crazy. Anyway when’s the next game?

Gonna be a lot of emotional letdowns over the next few weeks. I keep going to the Yard to not let it end!!

This morning, my school had an all-school assembly and in the last minute our head of school asked if I can talk to all the kids about UConn basketball. It was pretty cool since about 1/2 of our kids are born outside of the US and have little to no knowledge about American sports.

It was totally impromptu and at the end, I led the entire school (420 kids) to a Big Red UConn Chant.

Pure bliss.

Was it just me or did it seem like every announcer / commentator in the tourney was blatantly rooting against us? They spent 90% of the time complimenting, discussing the other team (Pre-game / Halftime / in game) and little attention to what our team was doing / accomplishing.

Clear example was last night is when Rafferty (without missing a beat) declared, after Cam absorbed a HARD foul - Bill quipped “he knows how to sell it,” Really Bill? Liked how you also clammed up as the replay showed how bad the foul was… Classy.

It seemed like every halftime / pregame / Game Call was 90% on the other team, and very little about the significance of what UConn was doing. A bit disrespected in my book. If this was a Duke/NC/Kentucky team doing what we did, they would be lathering them with praise / attention. For us, they only came around when they had to… Barkley looked like he has personally lost the game when he had to give Uconn the respect we deserved.. Sorry Chuck.

So I was hoping Dan would be a bit more reflective in his post game comments….But after the treatment we got this year- kinda of see where Dan felt the need to take the opportunity to remind people that we are the most successful program in last 30 years.

I haven't read this whole thread, but we owe a tip of the hat to Painter for coming out with a generic game plan and not changing it despite the fact that Edey was single-handedly keeping Purdue in the game for most of the first half. Shouldn't the Alabama game have showed Painter that counting on one or two players to make amazing plays the whole game is a bad plan? There may have been nothing Purdue could have done, but that is not an excuse for Painter doing nothing.
