"may lead", and it seems like the author made his own leap there

Sounds reasonable. Cooley got something cooking up there.

The article incorrectly lists Terrance Samuel as PG...

I missed the sarcasm. There's nothing in that article that suggests Providence actually leads. You go a lot further than the article in your thread title. Can you edit it?

In the last parragraph he mentions UCONN as "the other leading contender". So maybe we can change the title to "UCONN leads???" ;)

Our guard situation may be too crowded for another premier guard recruit next season. However Tyler needs to mentor a premier big.

A big is the most important, but with possible boat and or napier running for the nba

UConn's guard situation is no more crowded than PC's. They have Ledo/Dunn/Cotton/Fortune. Of course that is assuming Ledo comes back/is eligible. UConn has Boatright/Napier/Calhoun/Samuels. Again assuming Boatright is back.

Ledo may play some 3, but Calhoun probably will also. They don't have a backup PG, but UConn often (read almost always) plays two PG's.

I can't remember the last time PC had two PG's, let alone played them alongside each other. I guess Cooley could change that for Austin.

I guess UConn has more PG's but PC has just as crowded a backcourt.

From what I've seen, Brandon Austin is not a true point in college. Seems like it would make a lot more sense for him to come to a school that lets multiple guards control the ball.

If he goes to a one-PG system, thinking he's a true lead guard, it could be four years as a backup or a wing for BA. But if he comes to UConn, he has the chance to play off the ball and still control the ball like Ricky Moore, Ben Gordon, Jerome Dyson and others succesfully have for the Huskies.

Agree completely, just because you have a good handle doesn't make you a PG, it makes you a wing with the ability to attack off the dribble and handle the ball.

Exactly, wasn't Tobias Harris a point forward? haha. All the kids with a little handle like to say they can play point. Brandon Austin is a small forward/SG

We need a big an all around quality big who can score down low and rebound. Seems like you guys aren't use to having 13 ships. With 13 ships you should have depth at all positions.

Eric Bossi, a Rivals.com recruiting analyst, posted this today.

Still working on this and been doing a lot of background digging and talking to people on Austin. Right now, based on what I've heard I would say that UConn or Texas is the most likely destination. Distance being a possible major hangup for Texas. Providence in there too, just more buzz for the Longhorns and Huskies. Still a chance his recruitment goes to the spring.

Thanks scoop.......looks like a nice athlete and although we do need bigs they cannot afford to say NO to a kid with that potential.......he looks like the perfect 2/3 guy. If for some reason (of which I cannot see) we lose Boat or Bazz, it would be nice to have Boat/Bazz. Omar and Austin on the roster........and Allen......

They'll get some big on the roster somehow, change-of-mind, transfer, JUCO, Europe or something. In the meantime take the athletes and scorers!!

Really hope we get him, would be a major boost for KO going forward to land a top 75 kid. If this goes to the spring that would probably be in KO's advantage since the contract situation will be settled by then.

If either of our guys goes to the NBA, at their size, we are in for quite a treat performance wise this year. Can think of Nate Robinson and Barrea at their size (Kemba is bigger), not many others. Boat is a crazy athlete, not so much Bazz.

With UConn whiffing lately on the last few recruits, they should get whatever talented player they can regardless of position. We can add Austin and still have a ship or two for a big. That's my take on this.

Maybe the whole 1 year contract is having more of an affect that anticipated. After all, no ban next year, we get some schollies back, and you'd think we might have a bit of an easier time. Plus we already got 2 kids on board.

Kids don't want to commit to a school that has a coaching vacancy before they step on campus. Quite frankly it has a huge affect. This isn't football where people commit to the program. They commit to a coaching staff more often than not.
