It's that time a year again, UConn Women's Basketball. So that means the regular season contest begins this Sunday at 1 PM, or 10 AM my time. For those of you that are new to the Boneyard, you predict who wins and what the final score is. The closest to the final score wins. At the end of the regular season someone is declared the winner, last year's winner was toadfoot. Cal played UConn close last year and both teams lost key players, but I believe that UConn wins in the end, UConn 85 Cal 66. After the game the winner (s) will be posted. The attached file is the scoring system for the contest. Good luck to everyone.

Man I really sucked at predicting games last year. And me with the reputation of being able to see into the near future. The envelopes, tarot cards and my ouija board failed me miserably last year.

I went with Massey’s predictions most of the time and still lost. I can lose on my own. But I’m determined to get ahead of this thing, so I’ll try it again this season hopefully with better results.

Cal has not played a game yet, so we have nothing to go on here. They play Harvard tomorrow at 7:00 pm on ESPN+. I’ll watch the first half and adjust my prediction accordingly. It will be interesting to see how far down the bench Geno goes here since there are only 4 players at his disposal.

UConn 67 - Cal 58

POST EDIT -
Based on Cal’s loss to Harvard tonight, I’m going to amend my prediction to UConn 85 - Cal 55.

Kaizen, your 90 point prediction for UConn looks better now than it did 2 days ago. This is going to be a totally forgettable road trip for Cal.

UConn 95 - Cal 66

95 points. Stepping out there a ways eh Kaizen? We’ll see. Right now your prediction is as good as anyone else’s. I hope you’re right. That would be an excellent way kickoff to open the season. :)

My prediction will be based on Cals game vs Harvard.
If Cal beats Harvard then UConn 80--Cal 52
If Cal loses to Harvard then UConn 85--Cal 40.

I was sniffing an upset after the ghastly second half
but
Looking at Cal's record last year, very unlikely.

Good guys by 15 or so.

A lot of close scores predicted for a team picked to be 11 out of 12 in the PAC12
playing at Gampel.

We know the Huskies can score. We also know they have trouble stopping other teams from scoring....

UConn 86, Cal 70

75 to 55
I suspect we can't get to 80 as the players are still getting used to their new roles.

I was HORRIBLE at this last year but i'll give it a shot along with some comments.

UCONN was great in the 2 exhibition games in turning defense into offense - fast break, getting in passing lanes, etc. But... especially in game 2, they were nothing short of awful in the half court, especially when Crystal was not on the floor. They also got faked out too many times on jab steps letting the other team shoot a wide open 3. A team that is patient on offense showed that they could eventually get UCONN out of position and get an open shot - we basically played a Div 2 team even in the 2nd half. We gave up over 50 points to them. A fast paced team like Oregon could put up 90+ on us with defense like that.

Moreover, Cal is a physical team. I suspect that while Lou and Phee could play thru overly physical play, I'm not so sure Meg, Christyn, or Olivia can. I think Cal plays a very physical style. I think they will bump cutters and try to foul on every possession, which means refs likely won't call it every time down the floor. If that all happens, I can see a much closer game than many would like. Cal is "ranked" in the 35-45 range - getting some votes in some of the polls. It's not like they are a scrub team.

UCONN 79
Cal 69
