Preseason AP Poll | The Boneyard

Preseason AP Poll

Do we know if these votes were submitted before or after the Kitts news....
Also SC lost 3 players to the WNBA (Bree Hall, Sania Feagin, Ta-Hina Paopao) and MiLaysia Fulwiley to LSU. And, AFAIK, only 11 players on the roster currently. Seems like a lot of scoring and leadership gone.

I was definitely surprised to see them at #2.

To me, especially after Kitts injury, SC is not #2. There are some great Nov games that will certainly give us better perspective like UCLA and OK and UCLA and Texas and Duke and SC. While I am aware of the Tenn v NC State game I am not really thinking that will tell us anything mostly because of the “gimmick” style Kim plays vs a fairly new and inexperienced team Wes will have this early.

I think I would Switch OK and LSU due to the front court experience of OK.

Tough bracketing based on that 16, but here's what I get

1 UConn / 8 Tenn / 9 NCSt / 16 Bay --
2 SoCar / 7 Duke / 12 Miss / 13 Mich --
3 UCLA / 5 LSU / 11 UNC / 14 IaSt -- Sacramento
4 Texas / 6 Okla / 10 Md / 15 ND -- Fort Worth

10. Watkins isn't playing this year

Our SC fans can answer much better, but
Starters should be Raven Johnson, Tessa Johnson, Latson, & Joyce Edwards. That's a really strong top 4.

That looks about right. Anyone that doesn’t have the Huskies #1 in their preseason poll isn’t paying attention.
I agree 100%. I do see one problem with the poll; it gives us nothing to bitch about. Much more fun when we can tear apart the poll for throwing dirt on our Huskies. Wonder what we are all going to do with all our free time. Asking for a friend.

Watkins is SC’s biggest loss imo. As a freshman, she could be absolutely dominant coming off the bench.

I'm not convinced So. Carolina was a #2 even with a healthy Kitts. Without her I'd think somewhere around 8-10 maybe? UCLA should be #2 IMO.
Considering they were in the Final Four, seeing them in the top 4 for a pre-season poll doesn't seem unusual, regardless of the Kitts situation. This is a best guess for everyone until these teams start playing.

I hear the fall colours are beautiful in Connecticut this time of year. Only a few weeks left before all the leaves have fallen. 😉

Here we go again! I realize they were in the Final Four last season, but they have lost several key players from that team! So, IMO they don't deserve a #2 ranking! But thanks for your input, they are always interesting.

Here's the voters ballet. There are a few that picked SC #1

Aside from 4 #1 votes for SC, there are a bunch of other votes that make you scratch your head (even considering that, as yet, no regular season games have been played).

You must be new here.
5 years, my point though was the poll putting us #1 gives us no ammo to criticize our position. I know we can jump all over almost anything. I followed for years before joining up in Aug 2020. I have reacted to some of your post before. Take care, go Huskies!

I have been to Connecticut in the fall a few times, my sister lived there for 65 years. It is a great fall visit. I lived in Illinois for 50 years colors were good. Now in northeast Tennessee, high on a very large hill in one of the mountain areas. colors here are about 15%. we do get a beautiful color show. Spent many a fishing trip in Canada, what area are from?

1. Meh

2. Preseason Polls are meaningless... who cares

No way I would put Duke behind Oklahoma.... no biases here .... lemme scan through the individual voters and see who needs to be drug tested.

Twas joking …. Just noting that folks will get in a lather if the vote isn’t unanimous, or every player isn’t listed as preseason AA, or every WCBB discussion doesn’t mention uconn, or someone says it’s partly cloudy ………..

Born and raised in Toronto. Now living in Georgina, Ontario which is along Lake Simcoe. Get the fringe benefits of lakeside living and the city being an hour away. 😁

Folks, SC added Latson who is a first team AA contender.
Yes they did, but I'll be very surprised if she leads the nation in scoring under coach Staley. Here's a list of the key players So. Carolina has lost from last season:

1. Guard, MiLaysia Fulwiley (transferred to LSU)
2. Guard, Te-Hina Paopao (WNBA)
3. Forward, Sania Feagin (WNBA)
4. Center, Sakima Walker (transferred to Cal)
5. Guard, Bree Hall (WNBA)
6. Forward, Ashlyn Watkins (ACL)
7. and now Forward,Chloe Kitts (ACL).

Sorry folks, call me mean-spirited, but it is preposterous for anyone to vote SC #1 over UConn. 10 points is a solid win, 15-20 points is a whupping, not even sure what you call a 30 point win. UConn did it twice to SC last year.
What in the world is that based on? Latson is a volume shooter/scorer. Please enlighten me, when was the last time a player like that affected UConn. Even Caitlyn Clark was slowed significantly 2 years ago in the Final Four and UConn had 7 bodies.
If a poll is to have validity, efficacy, valuable information used by people to make decisions it can't be allowed to be stupid.

You were saying @MooseJaw ?

I would assume most if not all were submitted before. Given a scheduled release today, AP would have wanted to have the pre-season poll locked down yesterday (or earlier) to make sure they weren't chasing anyone for a vote and they had time to write stories to be released with the poll.

UConn lost 39.8% of its scoring from last year, 38.8% of its assists, and is now without its most experienced point guard, a position where UConn is very thin.
