The way this games is called is going to be huge. Arizona moves the ball the well, but the identify perceived mismatches and taking guys 1 on 1 is a primary part of their offense as well. If they are allowed to get away with pushing off defenders or the refs call it extremely tight, it could be a big edge for 'Zona.

Either way, UConn has to continue to run offense and hopefully draw some fouls of their own. Hoping the refs aren't a talking point after. Hoping for a well played game by both teams.

As someone that doesn't watch a lot of non Uconn Bball, it seems we get called for a lot of touch fouls. Do we just play D that way more than most teams? BYU game seemed like the halves were referred by different folks, IMO. Did our D change that much or did the refs?

One B1G ref, one B12 ref, one Big East ref for tonight.

2 to 1 in favor of physicality.
That is just so weird to me.

I admit I am an old man. And I do remember when physicality was such a big deal.in the BE that the conference adopted a 6 foul rule.

Now, that is no longer us.

Well, seeing how the game doesn't start until a Ref blows a whistle and tosses the first "jump ball"....

Yea, I agree the Refs will be important in determining at least one outcome of the game.

Except the Big East ref is notoriously bad. And Gaffney is in the running for worst in class.

Was very proud the way the team played tonight, especially with Reed and Mullins out.

It's early on and maybe it is only a few games, but I don't like when defenders are vertical and offensive players are allowed to use and elbow or shoulder to rock them back a few feet to take space. I know that happened at least once with Ball & Stewart and a few times their center was elbowing Reibe right in sternum. Thought Peat got away with it a few times, but was very impressed with his game overall.

Still, my big takeaway it that our team, missing two starters, and didn't do well on the boards, still came back to take the lead with a few minutes to go.

Forget the chatroom, just go to the game

I always pray I don't see James Breeding or John Gaffney. One of these days, one of those guys is going to toss me
Breeding and Gaffney are not close to being the worst. I think Breeding got a bad rap for the technicals he called on Hurley early in his UConn tenure, which were probably justified. In his first two years, Hurley argued every possession on both ends of the court. Gaffney probably gets a bad rap simply because he does so many UConn games. Familiarity breeds contempt, as they say.

Matt Potter and Tony Chiazza are demonstrably the two worst in the Big East. Potter relishes in the "villain" role. He has actively chased after Hurley during timeouts, trying to goad Hurley into a technical. He smirks when the student sections chants vulgarities his way.

Chiazza is just bad. He might as well toss a coin when deciding between a block and a charge, as evidenced in the BYU game.

Gaffney went out of his way to take Karaban out of our Big East Tournament game vs Creighton last year. As soon as Alex entered the game, Gaffney called some away from the ball foul on Alex. He was a one man wrecking crew

Vs Creighton last year at GP, Breeding was an extension of Greg McDermott on the court. Every time he blew the whistle, Greg was happy, including the end of the first half and especially at the end of the game. It's like Greg told him and Breeding anticipated and complied. His behavior in the Nova game you mentioned showed us his character.

The only thing I have to say is Peat traveled on his last basket..rewatched game yesterday..

Two crucial missed calls (or non- calls) cost us dearly: (1) The crazy pivot traveling multi-directional circus shot by Bradley (which even most Arizona fans are admitting was a travel) and (2) the equally obvious foul on Silas toward the end that was called a turnover.
