Post Game Thread - Thank You, Alex, Tarris, and Malachi

Officiating aside…..kicking it into absolute orbit…..can’t feel bad at all about that game. Michigan is GOOD, VERY GOOD. They blew out the entire tournament. But not UConn. I can’t say I will ever truly understand the shooting woes this team went through, but who cares . They fought like hell. Awesome season.
Can’t wait to see what Hurley has in store for us next!!!
Congratulations to a really good group of guys

What a season. Hope the guys keep their heads high, they fought as hard as you could possibly ask. Special thank you to Alex and Tarris, yall led the team extremely well, forever great Huskies. Best of luck to Luke Murray as well.

So proud of this team. Fought like hell and held this Michigan squad in check. Just not enough shot making and unfortunate foul trouble.

Love our guys. Thank you AK and Tarris. You will be missed!!

Completely irrelevant side note: Is Anderson the ref Hurley called a clown back in the day?

We played them tough. Difficult to overcome that FT disparity.

Thank you Alex Karaban, for everything. Thank you Tarris for your incredible effort in this tournament. Thank you Malachi for the energy you brought tonight.

Last but not least, thanks to this team for never quitting. This game was a microcosm of the season.
Don’t forget Luke.

Michigan was better. We couldn’t finish at the rim without them playing volleyball. But it was there for the taking with one or two more plays. Somehow that Reed steal bounced too far away from him where he couldn’t get to it and score to cut it to four. Then Ball doesn’t finish the contested one. Then they hit a three to make it 9.

But they defended all our stuff really well with their communication and switching, and we didn’t have players who could create their own shots. We needed someone to go nuts and just make tough baskets but we just had a glimmer of Solo, Mullins and AK at different times that they couldn’t sustain. Demary being a non factor on offense post injury hurt a lot.

Proud of the effort, though. Felt like it would slip away from us a number of times and we hung around. There’s no great way to go out, but I guess I’ll take it.

It wasn’t the injury. He has been pretty passive and deferential all season. I have been begging for him thru the TV to be more assertive as he can bring what we lack the most.

Hoping it comes out next season. The difference in aggressiveness between him and Cadeau was striking. Would love more of that from Silas.
I agree he has been too passive all season but the injury has DEFINITELY killed his scoring this tournament. His first step was gone and he was pretty much a non-factor in that part of the game.

I bleeping HATE that call when a player throws his body into a defender and then chucks the ball somewhere towards the basket hoping for a 3 point foul call. They gave it to Cadeau. That was not an act of shooting. Stop rewarding that behavior.

How wasn't this called? You have Cadeau flopping all game, and don't call this one?

I saw this replay and assumed that since it was stopped and reviewed that it would at least be our ball as it was pretty damn clear that solo was shoved.

That hook and hold was less obvious as Johnson was holding Alex just as much as alex was holding him.

This team always fights but the most frustrating UConn team that had 30 wins since probably Rudy’s Gays last year. Every game was a battle for the most part.

Time to reload. Need to keep our players and add another center, backup PG, SF and a wing shooter.

Michigans defense was the difference. They blocked shots, were physical, and just disrupted too many shots. Nothing was easy.

Agree on all comments about Cadeau. Heady player, but annoying to watch.
ate to say it but Kemba did this all if 2011

That 5 point swing really hurt. Not sure about the foul discrepancy, but I will note that every 50/50 call went Michigan’s way. One or two of them our way and the story could have been different.
This is the big thing. The Demary foul when he supposedly ran through the screen, but he got a shoulder charge for Johnson. Or the blocking foul on Ball early.

Two winning time plays we messed up: Ball missing the layup leading to a Michigan 3. Michigan guy misses both free throws and Karaban misses the 3. Oh well, good try Huskies. Great careers Karaban and Reed.
We need to take it right to the hole there. Aggravated we did not. But cant argue with alex launvhing the three

Not sure Michigan dominated the paint as much as you might think. We outrebounded them and had 22 offensive rebounds. What Michigan dominated was the foul line.
Give them credit, they shot free throws flawlessly. Up until those two Gayle misses, they were 19-20. 25-28 total. They shoot them at a standard 70% and that's 6-7 pts and the margin of this game. Never want to be in a FT shooting contest, but they took advantage of what they were given.

Yeah can’t say I love that it was successful. Kentucky tried the same thing and opposite results, so who knows.
These rosters rarely work, even Pitino’s mercenary team ended up with a 5 seed.

I think May just hit a home run with the perfect players and coached them to near perfection, but I certainly wouldn’t use this as a baseline for success looking at the evidence against

I agree he has been too passive all season but the injury has DEFINITELY killed his scoring this tournament. His first step was gone and he was pretty much a non-factor in that part of the game.
Silas was actually hobbling around at one point in the 2nd half.

That hook and hold on AK was a really bad call. They were both doing it, not sure how you call that.

Silas/Malachi were getting hand checked a ton and they never called it, but they called a few on us. Silas’ 5th specifically was pretty bad.

The Mullins tie up and the Ball blocking foul on Yax were also wrong.

But, i’m sure there are a few we got that were bad calls. Probably a handful less but whatever.

We lost because we shot bricks and were pretty soft at the rim. It happens.
