It won't look so generic once it's been around for a few years and gradually gets more associated with UConn. I think the logo is fine, but since it's new (and is not all-white, which is a fair debate since our mascot has been all-white for decades), people are resistant to it.
Yes, the old logo was distinct. But seriously, if they came out with that now, people would say it looks ridiculous. They'd complain about the furry mane, the passive expression and how stupid the tongue wagging out looks.
I always liked the old logo, and had reservations about them changing it too, but in retrospect, they've been needing to do this - to get a logo that could be used across all UConn sports platforms. We've had too many secondary UConn logos (Block "C" for football, interlocking "UC" for men's hoops, that God-awful "C" interlocked with a basketball for women's hoops, different fonts, etc.). This is a bolder logo, modernized and tougher looking (all important in sports branding) and should look good on the unis for all UConn's sports teams.
