Possible Injury for Gabby Williams

I understand the point you are making and your points of view on these subjects.

For me, however, I have to say that what Shea Ralph has accomplished as an assistant coach -- in terms of elite recruiting (and recruiting of the elite), player development, mentoring, and being a role model -- far surpasses anything she would have accomplished in the WNBA, even with two healthy knees. Her opportunities in coaching came as a result of the proverbial "another door opening."
True, but the OP was about playing. I think by not admitting they didn't reach their potential sells them short for how good could they really were/could have been.

You yourself say that they "did accomplish some pretty great things" while at UConn.
They did. But they weren't close to their potential. Don't undersell them.

I thought the tone of fan1''s post made it sound as though their accomplishments at UConn were not that good simply because they didn't reach their full potential.
Well see you are going by tone. I went by what was actually written. (I really didn't get that tone)

I should have gone bye-bye to what was actually written. But once a dope, almost always a dope.

Rope-a-dope. All will fall in the round I call. (8 in that instance)

As we've seen in some of your other posts (and those of us who use sarcasm or humor), lot's of people have trouble with "tone".

Speaking of tones. Here are some Tones of Home. (one of my favorites from Blind Melon)

"She practiced yesterday and said she felt good but wasn't at 100 percent," Matt Williams said. "She could play today but if she is not 100 percent, she is not going to play."

I know this does not mean that the coast is clear re: the latest injury, but it certainly provides a basis for optimism

Maybe not quite a basis for optimism -- perhaps a "Whew!" and a brake on inevitable Boneyard pessimism.

Sort of like something Winston Churchill said when the tide began to turn ever so slightly in World War II. Something like this:

"Now this is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning."

Rich: Williams will have MRI tonight

“Keep her out the whole season … Boy, look at what fight I had just for this game (tonight). I seriously doubt that she would … She doesn’t see four years from now. Kids look at this state championship she’s trying to win right now. They don’t see what you could be doing … A year from now you’re going to be playing against Stanford at Stanford with 8,000 people screaming and yelling at you. Right now it’s about, `Hey, my teammates and they’re going to lose without me.’
