All I want is for UConn to have a choice one way or the other. I prefer the Big 12 for overall sports. It will be good for football, baseball, and women's sports. The minus is soccer and men's basketball but that is not big with Baylor, Oklahoma St, West T, Texas Tech and Kansas

There’s also the time zone difference, which affects broadcast times. Only 3 of the new Big XII members are in the Eastern time zone. The rest are in the Central time zone except for BYU in Mountain Time. Try staying up for those games and then having to get up for work in the morning.
If you're really a UConn fan one hour isn't going to kill you. Dont forget in the OBE we had 9pm start times and we all survived. Next!

We had the opportunity to get more money in a league that had football and we took it.
Come on Hawk you know that's not true. We were in a hybrid conference in which about half the schools played football and about half the schools did not. Seven of the basketball only schools left. I hate the persistent notion that our time in the American was the result of our chasing football (and the companion narrative that are joining the new Big East what our abandoning football.)

I don't mean we chased it. They split. We could have gone with them or we could have stayed and tried to build the American. It was a binary choice at that point. I think we made the right one. It didn't go as we hoped, but how much of that was because UConn let it down? Houston, UCF and Cinci got into the B12, so it worked for them. Houston basketball thrived. Cinci football thrived. Coaching for sure. We've seen that too.

If the B12 offers we've got a similar binary choice (unless ACC also offers). Staying in a non FBS conference will limit UConn forever. I don't think we can do that. The ability to pay and retain our current outstanding basketball, football and baseball coaches would be so much stronger. I think UConn prefers the ACC and would probably call them.

Here’s the thing. Most aren’t UConn fans. They are really (New) Big East fans. Well mostly fans of the original Big East. They pretend it’s the same league.

Listen I get people have different opinions on staying in the big east or not, but questioning someone's fanhood is BS. Everyone in this board wants UConn to succeed.

There's an easy way to find out.

Ask everyone on the mens hoops part of the Boneyard to answer how they would feel if told we would consider dropping football to the level Villanova currently plays.

I'll give you my response, I'll be furious. I will cut my support of the university considerably. I'll still hope for the best in all sports that we compete in (I've said for decades that if we had a tiddly winks team I would root for them to win) but my attachment and commitment would be diminished. My take would be that the school doesn't really want to be one of the great public schools in the country.

“We are UConn”, a national brand, a land grant state university with national championships in several
programs and have a large following. Enough said. We are not second rate. We will find an appropriate home for football.

That's a lame argument. That's not an issue. There's only a one hour time difference between Eastern and Central. Right now we already have DePaul, Marquette and Creighton in the Central time zone.

You do realize that one of the 2 most successful conferences, B1G, even before all the conference expansion, was split pretty equally between the Eastern and Central time zones? Has it hurt them at all?

Magic 8-Ball says: Reply hazy, try again.

I really would like to kick the can down the road for a year and see if some of the haze lifts. But if invited this year, we have to say yes.

And then there’s freescooter, who’s neither a UConn fan nor a Big East fan.
Yeah freescooter makes me look like Mr. Sunshine and that is saying a lot if people follow my posts. LOL!

I love both the uconn football and basketball teams and go to a few football and basketball games a year… and I think we should stay in the big east… and I also think joining the big 12 would be a bad mistake
