Poor fan showing at Gampel

Not going to lie, the in conference games have been somewhat boring to watch, not sure if that has anything to do with it.

I think St John’s on Feb. 25th will be insane from a crowd perspective.

15-20 years ago I know a lot of students who didn’t feel like going to games, especially on a Saturday night. They were all at Ted’s/Huskies/Thirsty Dog/parties or pregaming to go out to those places.

I watch every second of every single Huskies game. I am a die-hard fan. None of it is boring to me. It is my favorite thing to watch. Not the boring super-bowl, babies in the NBA, same-ol phony Netflix min-series with fake tough guys or reality TV. It is UConn.

So if you don't like watching UConn because we don't do back-door slips or ally-oop slam enough, we may as well go back to what I used to witness which was Dom Perno's team getting absolutely embarrassed by everyone else in the Big East in a rickety old Field House. Heck, we used to lose to Fairfield!!!

To me, this is anything but boring.

I didn't want to start a new thread on this and considering were already at 13 pages I figured I'd ask here; I haven't been to Storrs in many years but I am going up for Creighton tomorrow. Im going to get there around 4:00. Should I just park in North garage or will it be a nightmare getting out? I used to park on Discovery Drive coming down the hill but I think I heard those are bike lanes now? If they are I was considering the lot outside Northwest if there are spots, or by the bus depot. Alternatively I thought about parking at horse barn but not sure I want to make that walk after a game, especially if it's raining

I would avoid the garage. There’s general parking available at Toscano for $20 I think. It’s an easy walk to Gampel and not too bad getting out.

If anyone has any better recs would love to hear them too.

When we were hungrier, every Big East game was loud. The big ones were thunderous.

Today's fans in attendance might not like Hurley whooping up the dead heads in the middle of the first half but he's right and we're spoiled - expecting the win to happen.

Not that the general fan is absolved but students have zero right to act spoiled. They may have been fans as kids and experienced the championships but now this is their team and they are responsible to yell hard and long for them and not just during free throws or late-game. I don't have a solution for the donor bunch. We've seen it all. A close game late brings a feeling of desperation and turns on the adrenaline while a lull or need to stanch the bleeding in the first half isn't quite as torturous. I'm certainly not blaming the students for the donors' silence but I will say that cheering is contagious and we sometimes need the youthful exuberance to wake us up.

Lol about Dom Perno catching strays in this thread.

Even though he's not wrong, wtf is it of Ed Cooley's business? First lecturing the fan base about how arrogant and spoiled we are and then commenting on the crowd? Maybe he should pay more attention to his 40-51 overall record at gtown?
Exactly. Cooley needs to stay in his own lane & stop commenting about UConn’s fan base. I seem to remember him lecturing UConn fans when he was at PC too. Just shut up and coach your own team.

The Georgetown coach did a masterful job of getting under UConns skin. The coach and fans took the bait He now owns us.
Eh, this nonsense was occurring well before bottle-throwin' Cooley pointed it out

I was going to say the same. This has been festering for a while under the surface if you listen to and read between the lines of some of Danny’s interviews.

I am not sure why the UCONN Student tickets weren't transferrable to other students to begin with. Not sure of that logic. Ed was talking about the student section in the 200s on the side by the UConn bench. They arrived late, but it eventually filled up.
But....time for my rant.....sorry......I have been a season ticket holder(my dad and then me) since the Field House. My tickets and family were moved last year, despite the promise of "forever seats".....the people you see leaving or not going are the same people who are behind home plate at Yankee Stadium. The school sold-out for the almighty dollar. Real fans like me, who go to every game (yes, I told my wife we were going to have a nice dinner at Chuck's and then go to game for Valentine's)....we got displaced...and honestly message received that UConn doesn't give a ___ about us. People who want to leave early to walk the 0.75 miles to their car, I now have no issue with- it's their right to...as all the close parking is sold to corporate suits/companies. I wish people would stop blaming the fans- look at the real problem and blame the school. Every inch of Gampel is now sold. The problem is the school, the AD, and NIL....they reap what they sew. I bleed blue and have my whole life, but I have been treated like crap- and it is harder and harder to swallow all the ____they jam down my throat and smile.

Less than a year after the school blew up season ticket seating to auction seats to the deepest pockets, and the coach is already complaining about fan passion. Just wait until the program has a couple of consecutive down years with these fans they onboarded.
We’ve gone through this drill, a couple of times since UConn got good. They price out the the most avid fans and replace them with ones with the most cash on hand. And when the crowd isn’t as loud, they wonder why.

All valid points. Some of the onus is definitely on the University. Having said that, this is what comes with success. Show me where it is any different. Not that it's right, but it's reality. I can't control what they do, I can't control what all the casuals around me do; but I'll be damned if I'm going to turn into a casual myself because of it. I guess I just don't understand a half-hearted effort if you're going to the game and consider yourself a "diehard" or "real fan."

I have a wife and she would think I needed to be committed if I skipped a UConn game for Valentine's Day.
Same. I offered to take my wife out to a dinner dance Valentines night and she asked “don’t you have a game”? She thinks I think I am on the team. She once asked me what number I was because I refer to us as we. She’s wonderful. And btw, we are both 70. I have been on the team since Toby Kimball.
