Here are my thoughts/grades on the game. So before anyone rips me a new one for my opinions, just read them with an non-bias state of mind:

Ryan Boatright: Where to begin, where to begin. I'm pretty sure Antonio Kellogg in a wheelchair could play better than Boat. He looks absolutely LOST on defense. He was getting crossed up and schooled by a white point guard. Granted, I know Ardicianco is good, but still. I can understand bad games happen, but it looked like Boat just gave up. And that pisses me off to see kids like Leon, Nolan, and Allen all want to get chances, and Boat gets the nod when he is playing dumb and without a care in the world.

Bazz: Don't go pro. You're not ready.

Finally I think people aren't being as critical on Ollie as they should. Sure we're 17-7 and that's great, but there have been times when he's made bonehead decisions. If anyone noticed the Germans scored 33% of our first half points. Leon never saw the floor again after halftime. And Niels shut down Ardicianco on defense for around 5+ minutes. When Niels came out for a breather, he never guarded him again. Ollie let Boat guard him (but he didn't really guard anything).

Overall it was such a bad game. Clearly it showed our weaknesses (rebounding and scoring). I just hate how we let these games happen. Nobody showed up except for Leon.

I have no problem with the way Giffey, DD, and Omar played. I thought they all played pretty well.

Since we have come to see TO having awful games, I thought he played better than usual. He had a couple of blocks and made some jumpers. He's just not a double double guy.

Bazz and Boat are the little engines that usually can, but Bazz was offtrack and Boat was scaling Mt. Everest all game long.

More than Leon showed up. I think DD, NG and OC played well with DD showing some agressiveness early in the game. IMO opinon he should have had more floor time as he also rebounded better than anyone else. You even gave some praise to NG in yor post.

I do agree with you that the substitution patterns could have been better. Ollie should have sat Boat down for much longer than he did as Boat added nothing today. A lineup of Bazz, DD, OC, NG and TO with some minutes for Leon thrown in might have been more productive.

Daniels couldn't guard #22 (forgot name) and he was yanked a few times after some easy baskets. DD did not play good defense. However, there should have been help each time #22 back in on him.

I wish DD and NG would be on the floor together more often. They both bring a lot to the table and can compensate for each other's weaknesses. DD's aggressiveness and athletic ability helps to overcome the sometimes tentative play of Niels and Giffey's headiness and basketball IQ could negate some of the 3 0r 4 headscratchers Daniels pulls out each game.

"He was getting crossed up and schooled by a white point guard. "

Any reason to bring up the Nova PGs race?

I also like them together but the problem is that Omar usually has to sit, as his ball-handling and passing skills are not ready for playing much time at the two and Omar has otherwise been playing well and he is a better scorer than NG.

I like DD and Giffey more also......plus Giffey is a better defender and rebounder.........when he is playing offensively as well as he was today he needs to get more than 5 shots and that's on the guards and KO........but all in all today was a mess and the fact no one could get a loose ball under the basket was the killer, they had 4-5 daggers from 3 after 2nd 3rd chances and that can not happen!!!

No reason to bring up his race, I went too far and I take the blame. But there's no doubt Boat looked down upon him and probably laughed at him during shoot-around. Needless to say, Boat didn't get the last laugh.

My thoughts:

No need to talk about Boat and Bazz.

Niels Omar DD all had quality games but all should have had more looks down the stretch.

How did Leon not come back in?

Why does DD jump over people and attack the rim with reckless abandon on the break but put up the weakest shots ever in the halfcourt?

I can't wait till 6pts and 4 boards isn't considered a strong game for our starting center.

I don't understand how this kind of racist nonsense is socially acceptable.

Edit: I see someone else brought this up as well and OP also apologized, but I'll leave this here as my two cents that this kind of thing isn't okay.

Bottom Line folks is we won't be relative nationally, till we get a biggie that will compensate for poor defense out front. I think Ollie is getting as much as he can with the talent we have. DD needs to get stronger, and Giff needs to feel he is relevent to the offense, rather than a third wheel. Boat and Bazz need more consistency for for forty minutes. Right now they play 1/2 a game at best, and boat needs to learn how to play team defense. As for T.O., he is the poster child for inconsistency, but he needs help.

That's some serious conjecture.

I'll give you that he's played poorly, but you have absolutely zero base of reference to make a statement like that. Quite frankly, it's unfair to Boatright.

Maybe this has been mentioned elsewhere, but when Nova came back from 5 down and gained the lead, KO called a timeout to settle things down, and it didn't work. UConn still had 3 available timeouts, and I thought that a second timeout would have made sense. It also may not have worked, but I know there have been posts after other games about KO not calling timeout soon enough. To me, this would have been the game for him to call 2 timeouts in quick succession for the first time in his head coaching career. Kind of like those who are wishing he'd get angry enough to get a technical called against him. The stuff of it being the coach's rookie season perhaps.

As a White Guy who played hoop ... and had a father who was a very successful College coach ... I think labeling that comment racist is over the top.

Whether it was 7th grade summer league or the adult league at the YMCA, we all can say that Taller guys do better in basketball than Shorter guys in many components. Why can't we also say what we all know ... Black guys are usually quicker & more athletic. Predominantly better Point Guards at this level. Exceptions? Abso-damn-lutely. But ... c'mon. I am perfectly willing to say that Ryan A. had an amazing game and a great BE future. It is fairly rare, though, in BE ball for White Guys to play that role.

I am eternally amused that our PC friend thinks he needs to provoke.

KO sat Boat as long as he could. It was clear the team wasn't turning things around without him. He had to give it one last shot to save the game.

I call 'em like I see 'em. I wasn't alone and the poster admitted a lapse in judgement; no big deal, we all make mistakes. I find it funny that you and HFD find it neccessary to comment on it 48 hours later; right after you call me out for stirring things up.

Congrats, you share a viewpoint with an illiterate poster who enjoys making fun of physical maladies.

It's all good, Mac. We don't let your obvious psychological maladies keep us from making fun of you.
