After 87 voters, no real surprises other than only 11 people liking Dick Vitale. I would have thought more folks had some sentimental attachment to him....then again, I certainly didn't vote for him.

Amazing that at this point the number of people that don't like Raf outnumber Vitale fans 16-11

I kind of like it when we get two people I've never heard of and they just do the job without making it about themselves.

Wish I had read the OP before voting, lol. I voted Kellogg because I don't mind him and would take him over a guy like Gus Johnson 10 times out of 10. I do like Rafferty, Eagle and Bilas though.

I used to be fans of Johnson and Fanta but both are so over the top these days it's annoying

Some of these guys are a bit annoying at times but my dislike for their absurd anecdotes and cringy calls doesn’t come close to how much I couldn’t stand Billy Packer.

“That’s a carry!! He’s carrying the ball!!”. -Talking about Chris Smith’s ballhandling…every…single...game.
Packet was absolutely miserable with stuff like that. When Clyde Dre let would go up for a dunk (uncontested) he’d say a travel should be called. And I mean a normal run up uncontested dunk - nothing egregious at all.

Raf, Bilas, and Hummel for me. Good call by whoever mentioned Hummel. Eagle is okay too.

I’ll add an aside. I give a huge thumbs up to Joanne Nestie. TV broadcasters are so unauthentic pretending to care about their stories but she was absolutely thrilled UConn won in 1999 in the aftermath that night. I didn’t really think anything about her one way or another before that as I didn’t get my news from tv too often.

Unfortunately, there's not really an easy path for up and coming broadcasting talent because of the log jam of guys who have been doing it since the 80s or 90s combined with opportunities going to recently retired former players. There's guys who do NESCAC games that are better than a lot of guys that get D1 opportunities, especially for the smaller sports.

I was going to post a similar thread today. I like most announcers. The thing that got me thinking was how old Raftery is now. Was thinking that the old guard is leaving. Who do you think is going to replace them?
Love his nickel dimer expression about fouls.

Nah I like Dickie a lot, grew up on him, he brings a ton of fun energy. He definitely yaps but it’s a nostalgic thing.
In Dickie V’s defense, he did as much as anyone to generate excitement around college basketball in the 80s and early 90s. When he did your game, it was an event. But his shtick kind of wore itself out over the years. Still a good guy though.

He is the worst announcer there is and talks too much about non basketball stuff. He also has a great hard on with Duke. I'm glad he isn't a top announcer anymore. Forget nostalgia. We all outgrow that when we find better quality.

Or, some people just like what they like?

He is the best
Hummel, to me, clearly preps the most of any of the color guys. He has actual insights about individual teams and players when a lot of guys seem to just filibuster the broadcast with generalities and fluff.

I did vote for Vitale. He was annoying as hell doing ACC games, but as a kid, when Dickie V did a UConn game I was pumped. Plus, he’s an incredibly good guy and just an icon of college basketball.
