I get the impression that Becca is going for a Dick Vitale-style vocal signature...she needs to consider it a work-in-progress, but a well-intentioned idea...

The ultimate example of the Chit Chat problem occurred the other day when Doris or Beth Mowins had gone off on their own little boring and uninteresting story and, actually, blurted on the air, "What happened? I didn't see it." Truth be told they think their own talk and thoughts are more important than not just reporting the game but even watching it.

I was getting more and more irritated when they started plugging other games on ESPN during UConn's. My sister, who is now an almost rabid fan is quite vocal about the lousy job done by the in game announcers.

Shout out to Doris - Hey man, it's not a ladies lunch. Put away the doilies and tea cups, and watch and call the damn game - no matter what the score is! Even the team who is down 30 may want to know what their players are doing. It might even be their first time in the spotlight.

Whether we are accurate or not, my wife and I have felt that Rebecca has been channeling Doris Burke from a few years ago - and not in a good way.

It isn't what she says, it's how she says it. OTH, Burke seems to have hit a better stride (could be from calling all those men's games), even though she still said (but only once) "twice on the pipes".

.
I'm not sure I want the audio turned on anymore when she's doing games for ESPN.

I am afraid I have to agree with you. With Rebecca's insight into the game and general intelligence I expected her to be an analyst at the Kara Lawson level. Instead she is a faded version of Doris Burke whose analysis has declined over the years and is more gossip than analysis.

That was my thought hearing her a few games back. She's toned it down a bit since then, I think,

In may be well-intentioned, but sure ain't smart. Or good for fans.

And so what if ESPN is pressing her? Kara seems to be able to maintain her dignity somehow.

I feel so lucky to be a BY er where many are great coachs and expert announcer critics. Bet Picozzi and Culmo breathed a sigh of relief.

Not me, but there are quite a few of the colleagues whose commentaries are better than anything you can here from all the above mentioned except Kara L. Gotta have that L, which is what I meant, of course. I have no TV, and so I often get the game from the BY...although tonight I decided to walk over to the gym.
