You think espn execs consider the idle rambling on a Uconn message board when considering lobos future? Wow.I don't think that this does Rebecca any good by dissing her... Any of the suits at ESPN seeing this might take it as a reason to make a change affecting her career. I for one would not being part of that. ESPN sets their "points of emphasis" or whatever they call it and it is her job to carry out their mandate... She is a UConn alum and I would not want to have a part in seeing her fail...
Are you kidding me???? She was such a HOMER for Baylor that it made me want to throw up. Basically she showed little or no respect for Louisville and continually suggested that they were going to choke. Her and her partner were always talking about the rally that Baylor was involved with and a good part of that momentum was a couple of missed bunny's by Louisville, a couple of awful calls by the ref's including a waveoff of a basket on a charge call even though the contact (whether it was a charge or blocking call) happened long after the ball was off the player's hands. The four point swing on this horrific call didn't seem to matter too much to Lobo and her pal. Then a big thing was made of a charge whereas Baylor's coach went ballistic and should have been called for a technical but Lobo and her pal took her side though it was obvious decent contact was made. The player wasn't knocked down but I don't think that's the criteria for calling a charge. Just now the Baylor coach was talking about the officiating and made it like Baylor was the victim of officiating issues. I didn't see the first 30 minutes but all the bad calls went against Louisville in the end and yet Mulkey has the audacity to moan about calls. I have never heard Lobo call a game where she did a GOOD job. I like her as a person and I like her with her sideline interviews but as a color commentator, she's right near the bottom of the barrel and I hope she never calls a UConn game though I'm sure ESPN loves everything she does. Please give Rebecca some consideration for the fact that ESPN is undoubtedly mandating or strongly pressuring her to put more "passion" into her game calls. It's obviously not natural for her, and she is not doing it very well. I doubt whether any of us would do better in the circumstances.
I just finished listening to the last 11 minutes (on the game clock) of the Louisville-Baylor game and I have no complaint with how Rebecca called those momentous events. Her analysis (including of the referees' performance) was insightful and objective. Let's overlook the bad acting that ESPN is surely forcing upon her.
Wow! If she didn't play for UConn and you didn't know her life story along with her Mom's battles with cancer, I doubt you or anyone else would feel like this. I think for a lot of woman's fans, Rebecca is family and you don't bash family. Well, you could invite her to your picnic or to your family reunion but that doesn't qualify her as a competent play by play person.I LOVE Rebecca's announcing. I think she is the best.
We should all lie about Rebecca's competence because we don't want her to lose her job! If this isn't out and out silly, then I don't know what is. This board is about trying to be objective and being objective it's apparent to most of the Boneyard that she doesn't do a very good job at color commentating. She does a VERY good job as a sideline commentator and even in the studio but that isn't what we are talking about here. She should not be calling games!!!!!!!!!!!I don't think that this does Rebecca any good by dissing her... I like anyone who gets buzz so upset that he/she must write long paragraphs full of exclamation points. It's sorta cute, in an irrational kinda way.
It’s not just Rebecca, it almost all women’s BB announcers. Very few analysts actually analyze. It’s often as though they aren’t actually at the game, as they ignore what is happening on the court to report some extraneous information like where the team ate last night, or who is only 30 points from breaking the record for assists while wearing a pink uniform. They often don’t report on who made the basket or foul. It’s more like a gossip column than play-by-play/analysis.
I feel that ESPN thinks viewers of the women’s game are ignorant about basketball. Then dumb down the commentary to appeal to 12 year olds. In comparison, listen to the men’s game commentary. Actually revolves around what is happening on the court. They discuss strategies being employed and details on what a team needs to do to compensate for some shortcoming. The fans learn little from watching the women’s game. I’d love to see the men’s announcers switch with the women’s announcers for a few games to make clear the differences. Switch the refs too.
