Give up all draft-night decisions outside the top 10 picks to someone other than Ainge. Problem solved. I've been pretty frustrated by how the front office has drafted outside of Tatum, Brown, Smart--all top 10 picks. The Celtics have a terrible bench because we have no home grown talent. Smart hurt and Kemba being a liability this season is a problem too, but I'm not sure either of those could've been predicted.
Hit:
- Payton Pritchard
Not sure yet:
Miss:
- Robert Williams (leaning towards hit)
- Aaron Nesmith (leaning towards miss)
- Grant Williams
- Semi Ojeleye
- Romeo Langford
- Tremont Waters
- Carsen Edwards
I realize that the draft after the top 5 is a crapshoot in some ways, but there are 5 first round draft picks on this list. We've got Robert Williams who seems to have potential but is also almost 24 and just beginning to be a serviceable player, and Peyton Pritchard (who I actually really like as a bench piece for a long career) to show for it.
Wut? Tatum isn’t even in his prime. He’s 22. He’s actually younger than Payton Pritchard.Don't trade Enes Kanter for one thing. We all know he mails it in a lot but he is still an 11/11 guy this season in 26 minutes a game of semi-caring, and he shows up for the playoffs.
Theis is not close to good enough to start for a playoff team and the rest of the front court is mix-and-match role players.
Ainge should have also traded Tatum when his value was at its peak. Tatum is a good player that thinks he is one of the best in the NBA. He isn't.

You must have lofty expectations if you want to trade a 22 year old averaging 25 points 7 rebounds and 4.5 assists.

This is a bad take. We really have to adjust our NBA expectation because many players come into the NBA as physically underdeveloped kids. Tatum was drafted after just turning 19. In comparison, Larry Bird had been in college for 5 years and he was almost 24 years old when his first Celtic season started.Ainge should have also traded Tatum when his value was at its peak. This is also why it is completely unfair to make any assumptions about what Aaron Nesmith will or won't become. The NBA is a developmental league. This is a bad take. Most of us remember Bird as a great outside shooter as he was a career 0.376 three point shooter. Well, that was not true when he first entered the league. His 3 point shooting his first 5 years in the league: 0.406, 0.270, 0.212, 0.286, 0.247.
Or, look at Kobe. He only started 7 games his first 2 years in LA and he didn't average >20 points per game until year 4. Giannis didn't average over 20 points a game until year 4. James Harden started 7 games his first 3 seasons and didn't average over 20 points per game until year 4.
Tatum is still developing and he will be a great NBA player. It must be frustrating for him to play on the current Celtics teams as the talent is not there.

He's an idiot. Tatum is a star. Brown and Tatum should be 100% untradable.
That's it right there. Very little ball movement and passing/assists. The big 3 seem like black holes when it comes to sharing. They will get their shots off.the Celtics don't share the ball the way they should in that offense.

Marcus Smart. This team is just different without him. Their defense. Their attitude.
I know that's such a simple answer, but man do they miss this guy big time.
