Pitts now on the bubble

Teams like Pitt who aren't playing well enough now but sneak in at 12 are scary…….11's and 12's should be mid majors…….the high majors who suck in their league have no right getting in!

Pitt has 1 Top 50 win, 1!

Their RPI is in the 50s and SOS in the 80s

I do not understand how a team can get in with that kind of resume. PC deserves a spot over them.

but, but, they beat ND!

As much as I dislike them and their fans if you look at the closeness of some of their losses to good teams you would not want them in your bracket. That said I would love to see them not make it.

they benefited from a weak schedule and by being in the mighty acc, paper tigers, or should I say paper panthers

Pitt's resume is terrible. Not only do they only have 1 win over a Top 50 opponent, but that win was in November. I think they have a good chance of losing at Clemson, which probably knocks them out. Beating Wake or whoever on a neutral court is not going to matter, and then they will have a tough quarterfinal game that they will probably lose.

If they beat Clemson, they probably get in.

Who? Don't they play BCU every once in a while? Not ringing a bell.

I'm sure Dixon assumed that, like the most years, his conference schedule would more than make up for playing a cupcake filled OOC schedule. But there's so much mediocrity in the ACC that those wins over Maryland, Wake Forest, and Notre Dame mean absolutely nothing.

ACC, that's why they are in.

Yep. Worst they can finish in ACC is 10-8. And they've got 22 wins. I'm not going to look it up, but I don't recall many/any 20 win, >.500 in-conference ACC teams missing the tourney. It'll be close. Pitt is top 40 BPI and 44th on S-curve projections I've seen (45 appears to be the cutoff).

Dixon is under a ton a scrutiny here. He took a ton of abuse for the TO that allowed 'Scuse to draw up a last second play leading to Ennis' 35-footer. Then calling a TO with 2.8 secs left in a tie game when it was a given that Patterson would win the game with either a basket or a pair of FT attempts. He was driving the lane with only one defender in his way when Dixon called the TO. He's now gaining a rep as a micromanager who doesn't trust his players in crunch time.

Against NC State, they couldn't do a think against TJ Warren. Dixon had three players rotate on Warren, all got into foul trouble. Josh Newkirk was 5-5 from 3pt, but in last 6 minutes, Pitt didn't set a single play for him. Very odd game as Pitt was in total control in 1st half.

Then again, it's an odd team. It's speculated that Dixon is moving away from the physical defensive-minded teams he recruited/coached in BE to a more offensive-minded program, but in losing Adams and having his 6th man injured, what's left is neither physical nor offensive-minded.
