The later you get in these things, the worse it gets. Six games in three days - even if you end up dogging it a lot due to the AAU style - eventually leaves everyone playing raggedy basketball. You just want to see strong potential somewhere along the way.
very true for the real amateurs, the youngsters who aren't use to this level of competition.

team cp3 came back in the second half, gilbert didn't have a good shooting game but i'm guessing he really turned it up on defense. didn't watch the 2nd.

Gilbert knocked down a pretty big three to get CP3's rally going in the second. Overall he didn't play well. Darnell Rogers jacks a ridiculous number of shots for someone at his size.

I caught the 2nd, I really thought the defense by the 5'2 Darnell Rogers was the factor. From what I read up on the kid this is consistent. Gilbert hit the big shot to tie I believe and played solid defense down the stretch to. Giles did not impress me from what I watched. Wasn't able to find the ball that much against the zone and wasn't that much of a factor on defense as he should've been. This was my first time watching Gilbert live and I was impressed even on this "off" night. I think his shot is there and as always once you come to Uconn it improves so he should be pretty lethal for us.

I feel the same about giles, i really question his overall #1 ranking as a prospect. he isn't super out of this world athletic anymore post knee surgery, so he really a finesse guy who likes to float around and shoot/slash. I like somebody like Tatum or jackson over him. think their games will translate much better at the pro level

What I like about gilbert is his pace, although in college for KO he needs to advance the ball at a higher rate... he is still superbly under control shown by his low turnover numbers. His first step is A1, an explosive pick n roll player... this was evident when monk had the task to guard him earlier in the day when they played elite wings ( monk is a 6'5 athletic beast).

Giles was operating all around the rim in the FIBA U19 tourney, from the games I watched the last 2 weeks he was better than Tatum. You gotta also consider these dudes might be tired, to come off of the U19 tourney in Greece, fly back to the US and play multiple games a day less than a week after that is a ridiculous schedule. Also Jonathan Isaac is a top 10 prospect in 16 so its not like he was going up against chopped liver and Giles still got the better of him in the 2nd half IMO.

Yeah that changes my opinion, for some reason i was under the belief isaac was a '17, so i was super impressed at his tools. I've argued about giles with a few of my buddies... he is extremely active and 'fast' ( like he can dribble in the open floor etc, nice in transition) he almost plays like a legit power forward. but his off the ground explosiveness makes me bite my tongue before i can completely buy in as him being 'cant miss'.

Yeah my opinion on Giles is still clearly open because this game is the only time I have seen him play. His mixtapes were so damn impressive though I was expecting a more aggressive quick flying big.. The zone seemed to disrupt him. Wouldnt be surprised if it was also fatigue.. But in all I liked what I saw from our boy Gilbert and the game was pretty entertaining...

I think it is mostly fatigue. He just got back from Greece with the U-19's. He seemed to struggle to create his own shot today, but he still had 20 and 14.

^ yeah the more i digest it, it makes sense the fatigue was a serious factor in his settling for times. maybe never the out of this world athlete, but just good at everything on the floor like shooting ball handling , and maybe passing out of double teams if he wants fatigued. he is fast though, can't really think of a nba comp.

Nike really doin' it with its live coverage and stats. boxscore of teamcp3s last game

Saw cumes somewhere. Gilbert shot 56 percent in five games in pool play before the 4-16 today, and has something like 25 assists and nine turnovers in all six. He's definitely played at a pretty high level.

Giles had 20 pts and 14 boards. AG 13 and 6 assist. Play St Louis at 10:30 on ENPNU. Tatum plays for St. Louis. CP3 5-1, St. Louis 6-0. Should be a good game.

tatum and giles should be top five picks whenever they enter the draft, that game should be a treat. nothing like peach jam, uprising or ua can't compete there. little known fact brad beal hooped for that stl team

And they're probably both going to play for Duke, unless Wake and St. Louis can somehow keep them home.

Gilbert can get to the rim whenever he wants, but like boatright, is not a great finisher. He had a very shabazz esq 3 pointer, and his a good defender. Harry Giles is a monster btw
Everything I've read says he's a great finisher. Must just have been off this game.

If there is an award for "best body control" it is going to Alterique Gilbert (@Alterique_G ) who is headed to #UConn. Finishes in traffic!

Rique had and off night and shot lousy. But he ended up with 14 points, 7 board (2 offensive), 6 dimes, a steal, 2 blocks, and only 1 TO in 29 minutes.
I suspect KO would sign up for that from a point guard on an average basis, much less an off night. Oh, wait. He already kinda did, didn't he.
I still felt that Rogers hurt them a lot, and can't figure out why he played 22 minutes. 1 for 10 from the field and 50% from the line, with seven turnovers. I really saw nothing special in his defense, and he's have to be spectacular on D to offset 7 giveaways. He gambled on steals twice that led to easy baskets for E1T1.
Anyone else notice that E1T1's time outs all looked like Chinese fire drills?

Rogers offense was terrible no doubt. But there is no way you couldnt see his defense. He naturally gets so low and hes quick as hell. He is a guards nightmare even if they don't turn it over they are sped up and not able to focus on running the offense..I would agree he hurt them more then helped considering the offense but I didnt see many benefits from his replacements besides the fact they wouldnt of taken/bricked as many shots.

Just got fouled and almost made the layup. Just exploded around the screen past the big man; his first step reminds me of Kemba.

I think that big that he went right at was Tatum. Had him turned all around.

I have never said this about a kid listed at 5'2" before, but no way is Darnell Rogers that tall.

That kid is looking up at a five-footer. He's about a foot short of being two inches too short.

Trevor Willis looks pretty good - I'm guessing he's earned a few offers this weekend.

Gilbert gets to the rim at will, draws fouls well. Has missed a few free throws..

.-.
He just had a 2-question halftime interview with Goodman, and gave delightfully meaningless, Crash Davis-style non-answers.

Officials gather as St Louis has 6 guys on the court for last shot of first. They decide no call. LOL. Got to keep it close I guess

Finkelstein just said we've had the best 2 recruiting months of any school in the country, and called Adams & Gilbert "the next great UConn back court."

Nothing we don't know, but it's nice to see the ESPN talking heads singing KO's praises on air.

Recruiting 'roundtable' at the half...

Question was which teams needed to have a big recruiting class - I don't know who it was, but the guy who said Kentucky should probably be escorted off set and shot.

Finklestein, I think, made the argument that some of us made last year - UConn needed to recruit better after not getting Jones/Briscoe/Stone/Mack. He commented that they 'salvaged the class' by 'killing it' in the transfer market. Then they went on to talk about Gilbert, etc.

They also spoke about a Mormon mission, so I assume they were talking about Bailey, but I was still trying to get my mind around Goodman's sock/sneaker combo and missed most of it.
