What we do need is a name coach to replace PP. We can't afford to bring in a MAC hot coach and hope in a few years he turns it around.

We need sizzle AND steak. Petrino might be a bit well done for Susan's taste.

An SEC or B1G assistant, while unlikely, would be ideal. Not being P5 pretty much kills that dream.

Doubt Petrino even gets a look. Warde could go with the Northern Illinois guy or he will go with somebody's coordinator. Chad Morris gets how much at Clemson? Clemson? Waste of money there...

Why would someone logically assume that it wouldnt be a big step down for some of the above mentioned coaches to accept the post after PP leaves the place ruined? Maybe catching an up and coming assistant might be a clearer option. I sincerely doubt a coach like Petrino or Chizik would be interested in this disaster.

Although this program and this University's Athletics Dept. is really in a state of disaster right now, you got to think of all the positives a place like UConn would bring to the table for a new up and coming coach to come here (despite the recent level of success or lack there of, and the issues with being in the American Conference)... Nice Facilities, Young, but Decent Fan Base, No major pro sports in the market, Larger TV DMA market, etc...

If someone with a dynamic coaching style and personality and a will to win and nothing else came here, he could be king in this state. That's what I've always thought. And I guess partially the reason why RE was so beloved here for so long (win or lose, and despite the way he left for MD).

He is a great recruiter in Ga and Fl and made Boyd into an ACC player of the year.

Ummm, no.

Here's his coaching history (courtesy of WikiPedia).

Why would we invest in a coach, however successful, whose attention span, propensity to look for a better deal (read as bail out) or for generally questionable ethics will get us a year or two at best? I'd rather clean up HCPP's stain of incompetence than Petrino's stench of sleaze.

1983 Carroll College, Montana, Grad Assistant
1984 Weber State, Grad Assistant
1985–1986 Caroll College, Offensive Coordinator
1987–1988 Weber State, WRs/TE
1989 Idaho, QBs
1990–1991 Idaho, Offensive Coordinator
1992–1993 Arizona State, Offensive Coordinator
1994 Nevada, QBs and Offensive Coordinator
1995–1997 Utah State, Offensive Coordinator
1998 Louisville, Offensive Coordinator
1999–2000 Jacksonville Jaguars, QBs
2001 Jacksonville Jaguars, Offensive Coordinator
2002 Auburn, Offensive Coordinator
2003–2006 Louisville, Head Coach
2007 Atlanta Falcons, Head Coach
2008–2011 Arkansas, Head Coach
2013–present Western Kentucky

When he left the Falcons 13 games into the season, Petrino "notified the players of his decision by leaving identical four-sentence notes in their lockers." Didn't Edsall get blasted for doing something equally classless?

You guys are something else. Every major D-1 program has gone through what UConn is going through right now...building the program. And it doesn't happen overnight... it takes years. UConn is still a new comer to D-1 and hasn't made a name for itself yet so your not going to get the 4 & 5 star players till they do make some mark.

Now if Coach P can't get the Huskies into a bowl game this year then he should be replaced and I'm one of the ones that was excited to see him get hired but some in here are just way over the top in your mean spirited posts against him. Some of the insults are just childish, some are just plain mean for hate's sake. I still hope the guy can pull off a minor miracle but with me it's Bowl or Bust!! That should be the cut off ... P bowls or P moves.

Alabama: 1954 4-5-2 1955 0-10 1956 2-7-1 1957 2-7-1 1958 5-4-1
Notre Dame: 1959 5-5 1960 2-8 1961 5-5 1962 5-5 1963 2-7

As far as a invite into the ACC... it wouldn't have mattered if Vince Lombardi was coaching the team... we aren't getting in there. Too much bad blood and animosity against us. It's not because we have a weak athletics program or that the academics aren't up to snuff.... a lot of those schools just don't like UConn and it's home crowd mean spirited taunting. The women's B-ball programs in the ACC don't want to play second fiddle to the Huskies year in and year out, BC wants nothing to do with UConn and Syracuse, Pitt, Louisville and a few others don't want to see UConn on their schedule anymore. So be it.

I'm intrigued by Mike Bellotti. He's the guy that built Oregon (admittedly with Nike money) but Chip Kelly gets the credit. He may have a desire to try to do it again.

This university ever hires someone like Petrino I will cease being a fan after 30+ years of being one. That man does not have an ethical bone in his body.

I want wins. Ethics? UConn and the all-ethical HCPP can't beat Towson State. Keep your ethics, we need somebody exactly like Petrino.

Ethics play no role anymore. NCAA is moving to pay for play. It's about to get down and dirty. Universities are becoming corporate entities. The days of education for education's sake are going, going, gone!

Really can't believe people would be against Petrino.

When- when- he leaves, it'd be based on a level of success. After last night, you wouldn't sign up for that?

Well, I'm not even going to argue the point, because there is no way Petrino is ending up at UCONN. Coaches like him thrive in environments where controls and academics are overlooked (Louisville, SEC). Both he and this administration realize that.

Time to hold our nose and hire him?

It's probably the right move if we want to get into a BCS conference.
Sounds crazy but it would be a good move for the following theeereasons

1. Would get us noticed for football
2. Would get us noticed for football
3. Would get us noticed for football

I could care less about the vollyball player incident but the way he quit atlanta was horrible and cowardly. I could look past that because he would chamge our perception immediately

It's funny how many people that are against Petrino were actually for Leach. As sick as it sounds, I would much rather have a coach that sleeps with consenting co-eds of legal age than have a coach that is abusive to our players.

I think I could live with Petrino's "three years and out" strategy and his slightly slimy ways because I think he is a great football coach. I would also be more than intrigued by Mike Belotti if he decided to come back...

Why would someone from Bama, or even Clemson, want to come to a northern non-P5 school when they surely could land something better?

M - O - N - E - Y that's why. But we ain't offering any so Connecticut's Labor Day traffic is one car lighter.

If you think the worst thing Petrino ever did was get jacked off on a motorcycle I don't think you know much about that man's past.

It's pretty well chronicled. He basically left Louisville a mess in terms of character issues with the players. He took secret meetings with other programs and lied about it to Louisville. He left the Falcons in the lurch when he left (mid season I believe) in what is regarded in the NFL as about the most unprofessional departure on record. There is speculation that the coed in question in Arkansas was put on the payroll improperly so that the coach could have more enjoyment on his Harley.

This isn't fools gold, it's poison............

Doesn't matter really. He isn't coming here and UCONN wouldn't have him even if he would.

I don't care if Petrino goes to Vegas and bangs cocktail waitressess three at a time, but I do care that he has a record of lying to his superiors and covering up his tracks instead of owning his actions when called to the carpet. The football coach is supposed to be a leader, when hire a *bag liar to lead the program you can't be surprised when the place is filled with *bag liars three years later.

He left on a lurch...kinda like Edsall. I get it.

That's not really horrible in the land of D-1 coaching.

An institution simply has to do what Western Kentucky did; essentially put into the contract a 1.2 million dollar payback if you break the terms of the contract, payable in monthly installments over a six month period. UConn could make a similar contract. Hell, we could probably pay the 1.2 million dollar buy-back if we really felt strongly enough. Pretty simple, really. Right now, Petrino's contract is a little over 800k if I'm not mistaken, and PP's is over 1.6 million, so the math there is pretty easy...

I'd be 100% for Petrino. Do what it takes to win, at least compete against Top 25 schools.
