Penn St @ Rutgers - 1/06/18

28 to 26 at the half, RU up by 2. What a barn burner. Uconn might average close to 26 in a quarter. This is some seriously ugly bball.

UConn can get 26 pts/qtr in some of their conference games, but not against a team like Rutgers or Green Bay.

Rutgers pouring it on now in the third. 10 pts in 5 min. They lead 38-28

Unfortunately coaches have realized that ugly bball is a game strategy.

Boykin playing well: 6 pts, 6 ribbies, and 2 assists. Nice to see that.

Rutgers puts up 22 pts in the third to lead 50-37. Looks like Rutgers won't be turning into a pumpkin today.

I tuned in and had to shut it off. Watching Rutgers play is still as painful as a root canal. Both teams shooting ~35%. I sure do not miss the Rutgers v UConn games. My hair still hurts from watching those games.

CViv has coached the same strategy forever and a day. She's won a lot with it, too, but she does need kids that buy into her defensive plan.

I just had a root canal, this is definatly worse!

Let's see..

UConn has had quarters of 30, 22 (Cal), 32,29,22 (MD) 27,31 (Michigan ST), 26 (Notre Dame), 33, 28 (Depaul), and 28, 24 (Oklahoma) against ranked or Power 5 non-conference foes, and you think they "can get 26 pts/qtr in some (emphasis mine) of their conference games, but not against a team like Rutgers or Green Bay"

How much ya wanna bet?

The last time UConn played Rutgers in a regular season game was February 2014. That was Dolson's and Bria's senior season, KML and Stokes were juniors and Stewie, Moriah and Tuck were sophs. Rutgers was decent that year with Scaife, Copper, Laney and Hollivay. UConn put up 96 points.

Penn State has managed to find a way to score 26 points against Rutgers in the 4th quarter. The Lions must be an offensive juggernaut.

The first guy said UConn can average 26pts/qtr. So that's like 100+ pt games. Obviously UConn is capable of 26 pt quarters against a lot of teams. But averaging 26pts/qtr against Rutgers or Green Bay?... don't think so. They prefer a slow pace game. If you want to bet UConn can score 104 pts on Rutgers or Green Bay, sure I'll take your money if one of those matchups come up.

Actually, I'm not a betting person....

Ref had a quick 5 second call against penn st down one watch replay ref sped up the last 2 counts

Wanna another bet, last time we played RU we put up 96 points and that was with Geno subbing out starter half way thru the second half. Just to be nice to Cviv!

I know next to nothing about the current Rutgers team. I know Scaife is a future pro, but I've never heard of the other players. Scaife averages 21 points per game. The next highest scorers? Ciani Cryor and Jazlynd Rollins tied at 7.1 points per game.

every shot by Rutgers is an adventure . They probably made 50% of uncontested lay-ups. I don't remember seeing them make a 3, or even a mid-range shot.

But their defense is pretty good.

Yes, very hard to watch.

I understood your contention to be that UConn could not score 26 pts in a quarter, not average 26 points.

Yeah, Scaife is a surprise this year after missing last year for heart surgery.

Not sure about her as pro. Shorter shooting guards not in huge demand in the WNBA. But after what she's been through, I'm not about to say she can't do it.
