That the 2023 class being referenced are expected to be huge core pieces to a top 5 national championship contender this season
Maybe that's the misunderstanding as I took Ricker to mean their freshman season since his post was prior to the 2023-24 season.

Toure in a close loss in OT

29 minutes

18 PTS
2 REB
4 AST (4 potential)

2 TO
0 STL
1 BLK

5/10 2FG
2/4 3FG
2/3 FT

  • Would like to see him find the shooter rather than take the mid-range J so much. He took maybe 6 of them tonight, which was at least 4 too many. I think he was 2/6 on them.
  • Overall I’d like to see him more aggressive on the boards. He’s a 3-4 boards a game guy, and there’s no reason for him not to be a 6-7 RPG player. He just stands and watches too much. No surprise... it's AAU. But still.
  • Has a bad habit of hinging too much at the waist when he’s shooting FTs
  • Other team is playing a zone and he doesn’t seem to know how to counter it. Doing a lot of standing… his mid-range post up or 1-2 dribble drive he prefers isn’t available in the half-court. His coach isn’t helping though… doesn’t have the guys moving or screening AT ALL. Did the vast majority of his scoring in the last 6 minutes of regular +OT.
  • Really solid defense today. Making shots tough, good positional defense for help. Not always locked in, but when he is he’s awesome.
  • Had a REALLY nice euro in transition past 2 defenders.
  • Couple really stupid live ball TOs. That was the decision-making I’ve written about being questionable at times

it could just be an early convo going really bad. dad have strong ideas and behaved in a way that gave red flags to staff
Hurley is just about the only coach in CBB who has the clout and the confidence to turn away top players. He sells UConn, but he also requires that players sell him on why he should let them come to UConn. It's a unique and powerful position for a college coach. Also, prep/AAU players have less clout now as a result of the portal. There's now two places to shop for talent, and transfers are frequently more plug-and-play.

Darius Adams on now vs. Dybantsa and Stokes, just had a nice 4-point play. But unfortunately nobody else we're really watching in any of the remaining NBA TV announcer games today.

Team 1Team 2Time (ET)
Oakland Soldiers (CA)PSA Cardinals (NY)9 a.m. *
Nightrydas Elite (FL)City Rocks (NY)10:30 a.m. *
Team Takeover (DC)Team Thad (TN)12 p.m.
Mokan (MO)Houston Hoops (TX)1:30 ET

But Meleek Thomas and NH Lightning are playing a big game against Tounde Yessoufou and WhyNot for a spot in the quarterfinals tomorrow at 4:30. Hopefully Toune is healthy.

Adams had a better game, but also just kinda took a ton of shots. 2/8 from the FT line is terrible for a shooter, tanked his efficiency. Was better finishing today than he's been (7/12 inside the arc), but 2/10 from 3.

Probably better to watch his HS games, because he may just be like a Jordan Hawkins type and AAU/Summer league is just not his game.

adams' lack of physicality really showing. the FT% is pretty weird. don't know what to make of it. supposedly the staff see him as a deadly shooter the system so gotta trust the process.

His team is now done, so his final shooting numbers are 5/28 from 3 (18%) and 11/24 from the FT line for the tournament. 55% from 2 though lol.

I haven't been able to spot any of our coaches in the 3pm game with Greer & Aristode and I have missed some plays. Jamison 5-8 from 3 and the rest of the team 0-12. Greer 1-6 from 3

I thought I read somewhere that the live period starts at 6:00 p.m. tonight or something weird like that.

Big "win and you're in the elimination round" Lightning (Thomas) vs. Why Not (Yessoufou) game on now, but I missed 1Q. Meleek scoreless through 1st looks like. Tounde is playing after injury last game and off to a very fast start, 12 points already.

There's a lot of UK Julius Randle in Tounde's game. Face up from the elbow and go to work. Pretty good footwork and some ball fake moves in addition to his brute strength. He's got a pretty heavy wrap on his left knee.

Meleek scored 7 in that quarter with a couple assists to lead a big comeback for Lightning. 2 point game at the half.

Back and forth ending. Why Not's Crowe (2026 top 10) hit a shot to take the lead with 10 sec left. Lightning big got fouled and hit 2 FT with 2.5 left to take back the lead. Tounde missed a contested middy to win it at the buzzer.

After fast start, Tounde went cold, but was taking shots like he was not. 3/16 from the floor from mid Q2 to Q4 by my count. Mostly in paint/midrange.

Thomas making a lot of right passes and plays that got them in control of the game in the middle quarters, but had a key turnover that almost cost them the game and a generally not so great 4th.

23 sec Meleek with the ball up by 1 dribbling, probing, gets the ball stolen and his team goes down by 1 with 9sec. NH Lightening taking the ball out of bounds at midcourt, turns it over again, then immediately steals it back and passes for the 3 pointer to win and its a miss, BUT, the guy is fouled. Hits 2 of 3 with 2.5 sec. Tounde gets a mid range clean jumper off and he misses too. Neither of our guys came thru at the end for either team.

A very underwhelming day for good impressions on everybody on our list. Did like 6'10 276lb Tee Bartlett who is #56 in the composite. Has some of the dancing bear surprising mobility of NCST DJ Burns. He'll be fun someplace.

Meleek and the Lightning take on Dybantsa and Stokes and the rest of the Oakland Soldiers at noon on NBA TV/free on NBA website in the quarterfinals. Soldiers are 19-1 on the tour this season.

Only other UConn targets that we know of that advanced to knockout stage are the JL3 guys, Hudson Greer and newly mentioned interest Sebastian Williams-Adams.

Nightrydas 2-12 Drive Nation 3-17 from 3 in first game. Shooting under 25% from 3 has been real popular in most games I've watched parts of.

Over the years, I followed the progression of NCAA enforced "dead periods, live periods, quiet periods", definitions of contacts and so on. It created a picture of the proverbial monkeys in a room throwing feces against the wall, seeing what stuck. Rules created by idiots governing something they had never done.

A few stats to contemplate at Peach Jam only (3 pt shooting, FT, RB)
Shooting of our targeted guards:
Darius Adams 5-28 17.9% 11-24 45.8% 16RB 138min
Hudson Greer 5-21 23.8% 14-18 77.8% 28RB 134 min
Acaden Lewis 7-28 25% 12-15 80%
Fears 8-21 38.1% 26-27 96.3% 19RB 138 min
Meleek Thomas 10-28 35.7% 13-17 76.5% 28RB 146min
Burries 15-36 41.7% 30-39 76.9% 60RB 169min (1 extra game but #2 overall RB)

Burries had the 2nd most RB of any player at Peach Jam, highest 3 pt percent of our guard targets, and went to the line more times by far.
