Umm... that's kind of a big deal.

Seriously, that is a tremendous honor, and a well-deserved one for Pat. Huge!! It will be a great day when she visits the WH and gets the medal. Pat, her family, and really all of Vol nation will have a great moment in the sun.

Bottom line - it doesn't get any bigger than the Medal of Freedom!

I know it was covered in another thread, but Geno had some great comments when he talked about people someday perhaps not remembering all the numbers (NC's, SEC championships, total wins, etc), but that they'd remember WCBB and Pat go hand in hand.

That's a huge, huge honor for Pat. Hopefully, the disease will move very slowly. She has an opportunity to add to her leagcy as a great coach by becoming a strong advocate to fight an insidious disease, just as Jim Valvano did.

Congrats, Coach Summitt, on an award that goes well beyond basketball!

A well-deserved award. Pat Summitt has made a significant contribution to the culture by helping bring WBB into the national consciousness.

She joins (deservedly) an elite group of sports figures whose achievements transcend sports: Arthur Ashe, Jackie Robinson, Jim Valvano, Kay Yow, and Pat Tillman, to name a few whose names come quickly to mind.
