It wasn't a great mid-range game from Paige last night (her 3's were really good, except for the last second impossible shot), but her 7 assists, zero turnovers and active defense were certainly great, and it's great that she kept shooting during stretches when shots weren't going in.
I find it perplexing that Koclanes finds it desirable or necessary to park Paige in a corner (without any cuts or movement) for many second half possessions. I realize that it's a game of adjustments, but don't make adjustments until the game dictates that they should be made.
Also, why wasn't Geiselsoder on the floor for the last possession. I thought that she was a great option to get off a 3.

I know it's probably a fool's errand to compare NBA and WNBA players, but I really feel like Paige can become the SGA of the W. Not gonna blow you away with highlight reel plays, but more like a stealthy assassin killing the other team softly with uber-efficient shooting and smart playmaking with minimal mistakes.
Definitely can see that and I like the comparison. The only part to exclude is SGA's penchant for drawing fouls. ;)

It was a back-and-forth entertaining game with each team going on runs when it looked the other team might be in control.

The difference for me seemed to be that the Dream had too many "candy from a baby" opportunities on offense where someone on the Wings either missed an assignment or the Dream were able to find a mismatch to exploit and got a lot of easy buckets as a result.

On the other side it seemed that the Wings had to work much harder and hit some tougher shots than the Dream did. Plus as some pointed out the Wings made a bunch of "WTH?" kind of plays where they were throwing the ball away or just throwing up prayers.

Great game overall for Paige. Hit a couple of big 3s down the stretch (one of the old fashioned "and one" variety) and looked like she might carry her team on her back to victory. However, defensive breakdowns on the other end and nothing but empty possessions after the two threes by Paige and a good opportunity for a w for the Wings was left on the table.

The deciding difference was Naz Hillman, who unexpectedly was shooting lights out from 3. The didn't make the adjustment, or felt that they didn't need to make adjustments, to defend this.

I agree with Dallas failed to make the adjustment,. Disagree with the unexpectedly statement as she's been making 3 point shots throughout the season.

Well said. Love watching SGA. He's known for what looks like effortless movement with and without the ball and what is referred to as his "silky handle" is a good comparison even though Paige herself says she admires and tries to emulate Kyrie's game. Either way, she is the "go to" especially when the team needs a "stealthy assassin".

Does this mean PB is moving to another team for her 2nd year & then win the Championship? :) :)

The game was certainly competitive. But there were also a number of head scratching plays by several Wings players that kept the Wings from earning the win. Carrington and Jones, the two Stanford grads, who made some really nice plays, were among the worst offenders with several “out of control” plays that just should not happen with veteran players at this point in the season.

I also thought it was bizarre that Koclanes brought in Yeuru to defend Brionna Jones with 21 seconds left when Hines-Allen was a much better option. Yeuru got lost on a switch leaving Naz Hilmon wide open for the game winning shot.
Carrington went to NC State. Her last game there was the thrilling OT loss to UConn in the NCAA tournament. Edwards did not foul her on the last shot.

Close, but no cigar. Carrington went to Baylor, but you are right that she took the last shot that was controversial. Foul, not the way the entire game was called. It would have been more controversial if they did call a foul IMHO.

I was at that game, one of the best I’ve ever seen, but Carrington was not a member of a very good NC State team.

Paige’s path to wisdom has gone from sitting at the foot of the Dalai Lama of basketball for 5 years to now getting advice from the guy who sells newspapers at the corner…….;)
If you were to waste your time and go back to my comment on his performance at the opening presser, you'd see me being even harder on this "friend" green X appointment.

I'd add JJ, Luisa, Zaza & Haley in that category (heck, any talented ballplayer who is open to growth).
One of the intriguing dynamics that we will see after the end of this season in the W is that with an unprecedented number of veteran free agents and a new salary cap, many top players will be able to go wherever they want, to play with whomever they want as a teammate.

I don’t know of any player who doesn’t like Paige. She is connected to every UConn alum, as well as all the outstanding players who were her teammates on USA basketball, and she seems to make friends with both new teammates and opponents about as easy as can be.

Think about how she recruited Azzi to UConn. Also consider that Arike, who will have lots of options next season, might just want to stay in Dallas and play with Paige for the next 3 seasons, particularly since the two of them appear to be learning how to play off each other.

Since Paige won’t be leaving Dallas anytime soon, she might just have to recruit her own championship team to join her in Big D.

I agree with you! Previously I suggested that perhaps Phee and Sabrina would elect to transfer to Dallas at the end of the season. And add to that a potential first player draft choice of Lauren Betts.

This is just a small sampling, but the YouTube kinda puts things into perspective of what might be available: Who would you wanna ...

Something else to consider. Dallas currently has 7 players that will still be on their rookie contracts next season. That’s considerably more than most every team in the W. While Dallas probably won’t bring back all 7, even if they let 1 or 2 go, they will probably replace them with a rookie or 2 next season.

As a result, Dallas will probably have more money to sign veteran free agents than any other team. The Wings can make some real noise bringing in 4-5 top veterans. If that was the plan all along, my hat is off to GM Curt Miller.

Yeah let's not even talk about that double OT Elite 8 loss where #1 NC State had to play in Connecticut despite being the 1 seed in virtually a road game. I don't recall there being a controversial whistle/non-whistle. End of regulation was 61 all and State had the last shot but UConn had great D and State had to settle for a deep desperation 3.

End of OT 1 State was down 3 with 8ish seconds and inbounded to Perez who made a great play looking left and then tossing it back to the far right corner and Jackia Brown Turner splashed a 3 at the buzzer over Paige to send it to a 2nd OT. Then UConn prevailed scoring a bucket with 5 seconds left to go up by 4 and seal the victory. Truly heart breaking for those of us that bleed red. That was a very talented team full of upper classmen.
