Agreed. Atlanta did not do her any favours in trying to make her the point guard when it wasn't a natural fit.

IMHO, Haley was playing out of position for most of her career at Stanford. She may have been drafted 6th based on potential, rather than her actual play at that point. I am hoping that she sticks with Dallas, as Geno has said numerous times, it's not when you get drafted, it's where.
 
Tomorrow night, I get to see Paige in-person for the first time, at the Chase Center vs. the Valkyries.

Finally... Being out here in CA, I've been watching her online since she was a freshman in HS, and then on TV all the time she was a Husky.

Of course, this means I get to see Kaitlyn Chen, too... And Tiffany Hayes...

Also, I get to see Haley Jones for the first time since she was at Archbishop Mitty HS.
 
It's Paige, just a retro look. I watch and there it was, the shot I kept trying to master in HS . Super difficult . In the act of crossing the key putting a soft one up. The mechanics are crazy. Well, damn it if she doesn't make one at 2:07-8. I now know that even then she could pretty much do anything.

 
Tonight, Paige's mid-range shot was a bit off, but she still scored 17, had 4 steals and 6 assists (she definitely would have had over 10 assists if her teammates were able to make layups or shots within 5 feet of the basket).
It was a strange game, in which Arike was effective early and, then, disappeared in the second half, multiple 80% free throw shooters clanked a bunch of free throws, and Wings players would drive with regularity into multiple defenders only to turn the ball over or miss wild shots.
And, speaking of wild shots and turnovers, am I being too critical in feeling that Dijonai is one of the worst players in the league on offense?
 
Paiges 3-point shot has been off most of the season, but her mid-range has also been off for the last few games. Maybe the lack of down time is finally catching up to her, but she still keeps fighting. I may be in the minority in this, but I don't think Quenerly is good for this team or Paige. It doesn't help if you are running down the court and your teammates are behind you, except I don't think her main goal is to facilitate, but always looking to drive, no matter how many defenders are in front of you. Taking after Arike.

Carrington’s offensive skills are limited at best, and she frequently takes ill-advised shots or drives into trouble, throwing up wild shots with absolutely no chance of making them. I don’t expect her to be back with the Wings next season.

Carrington is very talented, but has never struck me as being team-first. I hope you're right about her not playing with Paige next season.

I understand your criticism of Quinerly, but, if she can mature in her offensive approach and not always force the issue (eg one vs five drives to nowhere) and vary her playing speed, I think that she can bring some valuable qualities to the team (providing she's willing to occasionally pass the ball back to Paige).
Although, she's the obvious (to me) currently rostered replacement for Arike (& very talented offensively), I also hope that James will stop playing with blinders on and stop being the player who, once she has the ball with a mind to attack, will be open to kicking the ball to an open teammate once the defense collapses on her.
 
As I stated above, I got to see Paige in-person for the first time ever...

Even though the Wings lost and Paige didn't shoot particularly well (for her) most players would be okay with 7 of 15, 2 of 5 from 3. She added six assists and four steals, doing many Paige things. Her 17 points led the team.

Quite a few Paige t-shirts in the stands, so I was far from the only West Coast Paige fan to attend...

A few other things:

Kaitlin Chen played only four minutes, but when she entered the game, the fans erupted with noise! She is VERY popular with Valkyrie fans!

Wings got owned on the boards, 39-29.

The V's shot horribly in the first half, especially the first 15 or so minutes, but got hot in the 2nd half. Both teams ended up 27 for 64 overall.

Other than rebounds, the big difference was FT's. V's were 23 of 25, Wings 12 of 19. At one point in the 3rd quarter, both teams were perfect from the stripe, but then the Wings suddenly held a clankfest, missing (I think) 5 of 6 in a very short stretch while the V's grabbed the momentum. Wings could never get it back.

Depth is a big problem for the Wings, especially with their current injury status. Paige would probably do better without having to play 37 minutes while getting double-teamed most of the time.

Off subject as far as we Paige fans are concerned... but the Valkyries' game presentation in the arena is totally OFF THE CHARTS! What a vibe! Loud and interactive, but not obnoxiously so like at most NBA games.

And... I got to see Paige!!!

Paige also led all Dallas players with - 14 +/ -
 
Adding a couple more thoughts to what I said above:

1) I was VERY impressed by the athleticism of the players, something you can't fully realize when watching on TV.

2) Both the variety and sophistication of the sets on offense and the clever defenses are absolutely amazing! These teams are reallllllyyyyyyy good!

I thought so, too. It was kind of an awkward landing or something... The announcers didn't even mention it at the time, but I did see something... She didn't come out of the game at the time, either.

Hasn't missed any time, though... However, I think certain moves are more difficult for her at the moment...

Maybe this is one of those things she'll deal with after the season, but I guess they think the likelihood of her aggravating this apparent injury is very low, or they'd sit her or at least limit her minutes.

Someone above said Carrington is "very talented". I disagree with that. She's a solid rebounder, has a decent handle for a player her size, but when she gets the ball, it's often not a pass, rather dribble around, put her head down, drive to the basket no matter who is in her way, chuck up a poor shot that has no chance of going in, and pray the refs call a foul.

To me that's not a talented basketball player. I agree the wings would be well served letting her (and Arike) go next season. Focus on youth. Bueckers, Quinerly, James, Guiselsoder, Yeru, Segriest, etc. Build around that and continue to draft well. Not sure what they could get in a trade with Carrington and Ogunbowale, but I hope they are able to do it, and get something decent in return...

I think Haley Jones has (shockingly) been good. From what I hear, she's the nicest kid, but somehow her game has not improved one iota from her sophomore year in college. I like Hines-Allen too. Not sure they need Berger or McCowan either. Or Ty Harris.

I think Li, Louisa, and Ty Harris are team players and can play with Paige. Maddy also is a team player, but the rest can go away in my opinion.
 
I understand Quinerly and can sympathize to an extent. There’s not a lot room for 5’8” guards in the W. She needs to make a name for herself, and being a ‘team player’ on a board trim feeder is not likely to do it for her. It may be a self defeating approach, but I can see how it has shaped her play.
 
few games back i thought that Quinerly and James should be part of the Wings future but to see them taking bad shot after bad shot and going to the basket regardless who is in the way, changed my view. Quinerly as the PG need to allow plays to develop instead of just shooting the moment she thinks she can take a shot...very disappointing. And got to agree with Eric about Carrington. don't need her if the Wings want to get somewhere in the future.
