At 2:55 of the 1st quarter Paige had her layup blocked by (6' 7") Kalani Brown and stayed at that end for a few seconds holding her head/ear. According to Koclanes, at the post-game, she's ok but had been hit with an elbow (no blood, no foul) - obviously a concern, as a fan, when we reflect on her recent concussion.

Paige is pretty tough. Getting hammered by Kalani Brown would set anyone back. She’ll be fine.

I refuse to watch any feature about Paige or UConn if they cannot pronounce their names correctly. Not only that, but there are always errors in their commentary, and it just really annoys me to listen to this dribble. Its either AI or some person who has no clue about the players or teams, just stories that are sometimes inaccurate or made up. The world we live in.

While we all like to believe that Paige will never have a bad game, that’s just not the way it works. Ask Caitlin Clark. What I saw tonight was a Mercury team that barely gave Paige any room to breathe on offense. It was amazing that she still managed to score 11 points in the 1st half, including 4/4 from the FT line after demonstrating that she had mastered a new move, the James Harden quick shot into an opponent who’s trying to lock you down with their arms extended.

On the defensive side, the Mercury ran all kinds of screens and actions that had Paige and her teammates runni of the team ng through one pick after another with the result that they were often late closing out on shooters or they were easy pickings for back cuts and layups.

Phoenix is heading for the playoffs. Dallas is not. Last night was a learning experience for Paige and the Wings as they continue to figure things out in the W.

Beyond that, it is a pretty significant physical and mental challenge for a rookie, fresh off a 40 game season and a national championship to immediately jump to the best WBB league in the world and compete at the highest level. I do think Paige could use some down time. Unfortunately, that’s not going to happen until the fall.

All good but maybe you or someone could help out here. In the game I didn't notice how many touches Paige actually got. Might be wrong but it just seemed that the rest of the team wasn't really sharing the ball much at all.

I can't quantify it, but it's pretty usual on the Wings for Paige to never touch the ball on a possession or to never touch the ball again once she gives it up.
 
Better looking than Michael Jordan's except for the socks. LOL

Yup... It was this way for Sabrina Ionescu when she started up with the Liberty.

I follow her also, saw her play in-person for my team's archrival, Miramonte of Orinda, CA. She absolutely DESTROYED my Campolindo Cougars every time.

Unfortunately, virtually no support for Paige today. She had an uncharacteristic 4 turnovers, but (aside from her last trip to the freethrow line) had a very efficient offensive game making multiple difficult shots (& probably should have had 10 assists if her teammates could have made any open shots).
 
It doesn't help that they have no mobile, athletic bigs as a deterrent around the basket & the team is abysmal at rotating and switching.
 
That was a horrible game to watch. Many of Paige's turnovers occured when she was passing to a stationary team member. It's a lot easier to jump a passing lane when the recipieant of a pass is standing still rather than cutting. The standing around and lack of switching would seem like a coaching issue.

Greater Dallas native Lauren Cox played pretty well in the WNBL this year. 13 pts 8 rebounds 3 blocks, 56% from 2. Seems like a no-brainer to me, but I’ve always liked her despite playing for Baylor.

Well specifically no defense from the Wings.
Yueru was 16 points on 8-11 from the field.
Quinerly 13 points 6-11.
James 11 points 3-4 from 3.

They had enough support on offense (outside of Arikes 0-10) they were very efficient shooting the ball. The team doesn’t play defense. Is that a coaching thing? The make up of the roster? But it’s a theme game in and game out, can’t stop anyone.
 
I loved that in the postgame press conference, Paige jumped in to answer a question directed to the coach in order to defend Arike.
I am not confident that her leadership will bear significant results this season, but, my goodness, she's a great leader through this difficult time, and I have a feeling that other players around the league will take note of that when considering where to sign next season (at least I hope so).
