Paige's Wings Page (merged thread)

This is the first year I’ve watched much WNBA so perhaps this is a foolish take. But I’ve watched the Wings a good amount this year and why wouldn’t Dallas entertain trading Arike for picks or young talent? They seem to be destined for a bad season this year and she would have some trade value, no?

It just seems to me that she’s sort of an alpha type player but Paige is more efficient and the clear future of the team. Why not hand the keys over to Paige and start trying to build for a future? You have Aziaha James whose game, at least offensively, isn’t too dissimilar from Arike. Aziaha is slight of build but is a bucket getter. Why not see what you have with Paige and ZaZa and Quinerly in the backcourt and try to acquire some help in the post or at the 3?

In her last 5 games Bueckers was 4/18, including 2/3 in the last one before her break. It still proves the point, though 2/17 is worse than Plum’s, 4/18 better.
The post was from a couple days ago but the point is still valid

Unfortunately that's not an option this season.
If I were Dallas, I would shut her down for 2 weeks. Tell her to take a vacation. No basketball. In the long run, it will be better for both parties.

I would do 7/9 thru 7/25. She would only miss 1 home game.

Yes, and that was last night when she didn’t play.
Thanks I didn't put that together. Fans do have memories. How many more became fans when she dropped a long three with time expiring in the half in the Mercury game. In the desert that has been Dallas she has been a big cool glass of water.

Yeah, right. Nylissa Smith, who played with Indiana last year, said that Paige has the same effect as Clark has with the fans. Benching her would be suicide for the Wings management. Just play her 30 minutes, and that's that.

Hopefully Smith can handle passes by Paige better than she did with Clark..she was terrible .. cost CC about two assists a game

This team has a really good vibe right now. Even players like Luisa and Li Yueru seem to really be enjoying their basketball on this team. When they were like 1-11 and Paige was out with a concussion… things really did seem terrible. Nice to see things have flipped.

Paige was magnificent I last night's game: from her brilliant and economical shooting, to her deference to other hot-handed rookies (including in a courtside postgame interview).
That being said, being aggressively and physically guarded is actually a compliment to the player being guarded (I greatly respect Alyssa Thomas' game). The other team wants to win and tries to cut off the head of a very dangerous snake. This can be very dangerous for the object of the defense's attention.
I get scared for Paige on occasion because of this, although I don't think she's been the target of any intentionally dirty play.
My problem is with the officiating: holy fill-in-the-blank, the things that are patently fouls that they let go are horrible and can get get someone severely injured. What ever happened to freedom of movement?
My bottom line is: call the d****d fouls - at least protect players and reward them for dealing with over-the-line aggressive defense.

The announcers kept saying "well the only way to stop Paige is to be really physical with her". NOT a fan of that, but it is what it is. In the offseason, Paige (IMHO) needs to spend a LOT of time in the gym. I pray she makes it thru the season injury free, and hopefully getting stronger makes it easier for her to absorb the apparent abuse coming her way...

The entire rookie group at Dallas was sensational. James was a star, and Quinerly was really good. Geiselsoder had a really poor shooting night (1-9) but she's been solid for them as well. The future looks really bright.

I say trade Arike and Dijonai away for another player and a draft pick for next season and go all in on rebuilding. I still think Dallas misses the playoffs and will likely get a good pick (1-4), but getting another one would be great as I think the next class coming out is deep as well. How about Arike and Dijonai for Edwards and Olson from Washington plus their first round pick next season? Would give the Mystics some oomph for a playoff push this season.

Anyway I'm no GM. That's probably a dumb trade idea but I'm sure there is one that could work out. Go after younger players and rebuild.

It’s new math. Addition by subtraction. 5-2=5+. They scored 98 points, it’s amazing what can be done by removing two obstacles. As for your trade, I don’t know how that helps Washington. It would just gum up the offense for Citron and Iriafen.
