Paige's Wings Page (merged thread)

Has Paige ever had a technical foul before (by tge way, IMO it was a very weak call and should have not been made)?
I don’t ever remember Paige getting a technical. That was a bad call. Probably got it because she clapped her hands, but she always does that after a good play. She wasn’t clapping at the ref. She was being fouled constantly throughout the game.

Here is a clip.of the.tech. I agree it was an overreaction by the ref.

In the post game, Paige was asked about the T. She indicated she clapped twice and said, “and one” to the ref. That’s a pretty lame technical by the ref. Paige should have gotten her money’s worth by shouting out, “and f…ing one” :)

Ok, on one hand Paige sat for 5 minutes today, but, on the other hand, she still played 40.
Paige didn't shoot well (combination of Citron and Mystics good rotations and blitzes), but she had a very clutch 3 to send the game to OT and had 9 rebounds, 7 assists, 1 steal, 1 block and a +/- of +6.

Paige was asked by one of her former UConn teammates, and she replied, "Not since high school."

This was a really ugly game. Paige had her ups and downs. But as you point out, DC blitzed her all game. You can only do that if the team you play doesn’t spread the floor and hit open shots, which is exactly the issue with the Wings.

Arike was OK and James hit a few big shots. But for the most part the Wings just don’t have enough offense on the floor to win consistently in the W.

It certainly won't be optimal, but I think they have the possibility to improve substantially as the season moves along. I think that James will continue to improve, as will Li, and the return of Geiselsoder could really help spread the floor, create some space and make for the possibility of effective kick-outs. No sure thing, but there is some glimmer of hope.

I don't know if Nika is spending much time with the Storm. But I'd hope a "teammate" would think twice about making fun of Yueru's language skills if Nika was around. Nika's a lot like Paige that way, but maybe a tad (read: much) more physical.

I can’t help but wonder how much better Paige could play with a really good team, like during the summer of 2026 with the US Olympic team … :)
Her court vision is elite and the only stat it may show up in would be APG. But she would maximize the offensive talent of that team better than anybody in the country. By then she'd know from experience how best to take advantage of the blitz tactic and utilize her teammate's ability to play off of her if teams attempted to use it.

Put Paige on the court with Sabrina and CC and no team in their right mind would dare to blitz her.

Just this past season, several teams tried it against UConn and Paige would flip that little hook pass over her head to a wide open Sarah for an easy 3.

Whether or not a team has players of the level of Sabrina or Clark as potential pass recipients/shooters, isn't it incumbent upon your teammates to call out an incoming blitz (as you would for a screen on defense) and position themselves to receive a pass?
