Ugg! It's reported she'll miss a minimum of two games. Hopefully she'll be cleared to play at some point next week.

Dallas Wings point guard Paige Bueckers will miss at least two games after being placed in the concussion protocol, the team said Friday.
The Wings said Bueckers was placed in the protocol after Thursday's loss to the Chicago Sky.

This article says it's the first time she'll miss playing time due to a head injury but I don't think that's right?

Oh, geez, that stinks. And I missed last night’s game.

Koclanes “managed” her time last night with 36 minutes. If she was placed in concussion protocol soon after the game, I assume she got hit during the game and played some time after that. :(

.-.
I have a feeling that the injury occurred when Paige and Sloot had a bad collision.
Yes. Paige was down for a minute or so getting her bearings. The collision didn’t appear to affect Paige thereafter. But I suspect that she must have had some issues after the game.

ESPN must really be upset, as the game between the Wings and Storm on Tuesday night will be televised by them. This would be the first opportunity for the network to see Paige in the pro setting, as well as the rest of the country. There would not be any shortage of Paige accolades if Lobo was there as color person, so I guess that will have to wait. BTW, I'm pretty upset myself regarding her injury, but things just can't move to smoothly for our girl. Last nights game without her, total mess with no playmaking at all. Ty Harris was still out, so the only PG play was by Atike and Carrington. As bad as this team is, Paige still makes them better, if not more organized.

Is a head butt considered a flagrant foul? :D
It was definitely a hard foul as Paige was about to turn the corner on Vandersloot, who had trouble guarding her all game. I don’t think it was a flagrant foul. But it certainly was an act of desperation by a defender who was about to get beaten off the dribble.

Some would question that not being a flagrant foul. But the real issue is why was Paige allowed to continue playing? What exactly did she say to the coach and trainer and what did they do in safeguarding the health of their player? The obviously casual, business-as-usual way this was handled is more of a problem than many want to admit.

Please note my response to your comment on the “Paige’s Wings page” thread. It was a hard foul, not a flagrant foul. Paige was not unconscious, dizzy or nauseous. She complained of a headache after the game. Out of an abundance of caution, the Wings decided to place her in the concussion protocol. I know we all love Paige, but no one is at fault for anything in this situation.

It will be interesting to see the TV ratings when "casual" fans find out Paige and Clark are not playing.

Wisewillie, I suspect there wasn't any manifestation of a concussion at the time of the foul (less than a minute left in the second quarter), nor throughout halftime, nor during the rest of the game.

In fact, watching the replay, one can see Paige, once play is about to resume, telling Courtney something that I infer is "All good". Plus we can see Paige getting the ball again immediately, drawing another foul on Sloot, and making both free throws as the TV cameras hone in on Paige's face.

I agree with oldude - I suspect this came to light after the game and it appears the Wings took the appropriate action immediately.

Concussions have no rhyme or reason when it comes to symptoms. They can present themselves much later from when the impact occurred. The Wings are doing the right thing keeping Paige out and monitoring her accordingly. That's what matters.

There was some indication of a problem after the collision with Van Slooten. But it probably wasn’t noticed at the time and Paige was eager to play on.

The problem for the Wings, other than the risk to a major asset for their future, is that public opinion will roast them if this turns out be serious — it won’t matter if it’s fair or not. I also won’t be surprised to see her teammates rally around her and maybe try to protect her from hard fouls like that one going forward.

This is like the problem Indiana has with Caitlin. They can’t afford to lose her for long — even if they win without her, ticket sales will take a hit. Paige and Caitlin may not be MVPs yet, but the future of the league will be diminished if they allow these two fan favorites to be wasted by hard fouls and needless injury.

I have to take a quote from Fishy:

Trainer said, “Are you OK Paige?”
Paige comments , “My name is Paige.”
Coach says,”Get back in there and shoot.”

I've enjoyed UConn WBB since Diana and will continue to enjoy. But WNBA I can leave. A couple of players are interesting. The brand of BB that they play isn't so much. Take a look at the stats for the Wings. Shooting isn't great.
I think they should call fouls tighter, have a parade to the foul line, and count on players learning to play with more finesse. Also, players should only have 4 fouls before fouling out. That would make them more careful, too.

I have been waiting all day to find out if Paige will be playing Friday night. She WON'T. Crap, I was looking forward to the game with LA, a game the Wings could actually win with her in the line-up. Sort of strange that Paige is having a problem while Caroline is on the road to recovery.

Bummer Paige is out again but they did say she'd be out AT LEAST two games and we don't know if she's one game or several games away from returning as that was a pretty hard hit to the head she took on that play. Anyway, good vibes Paige's way. Hopefully, she is back sooner rather than later.

? She practiced with the team today. I understand it’s a game time decision. Where did you see that she’s been ruled out?

I just watched a presser with Chris Koclanes from a morning shoot around and he once again indicated that Paige is “day to day.” That tells me that Paige will be a “game time decision” for the LA Sparks game tonight.
