Kinda strange seeing Oregon St. playing on the first day of the tourney.

Cal making a game of it in the 2nd half against ASU.

As the 6 seed no less. Wouldn’t have thought that possible.

But I expect them to make mincemeat of Wazzu. Especially if Molina can’t go.

On OSU board there was a post saying Coach Ethridge thinks Chanelle will be good to go for this game. I still haven't heard anything about Murekatete.

I like to think of OSU's regular conference finish as "tied for 5th place." Sounds much better...

WSU coach stated yesterday that she expects Chanelle Molina to play today.

Other than ASU's better than expected season (which was maybe not THAT surprising given their senior-heavy lineup), there haven't really been any surprises that Oregon, UCLA, Stanford, and Arizona all came to play. Other than Oregon being at the top of the heap, any arrangement of the other four in slots 2nd-5th seemed plausible at the start of the season.

Give OSU Kennedy Brown back and I think they'd be no lower than 5th, given that four of their losses came after her injury.

Can OSU have Corosdale back as well while you are discussing hypotheticals? Probably won't get much sympathy from TheFarmFan.

Why did you start a PAC-12 Tournament thread? I am guessing, based on the past (couple of hours :)), that there will be a thread for every game, with play by play. Head bang  :)

And yes, I do ignore the play by play game threads.

No biggie. I was a little late starting this thread and someone else started a game thread. We still have 10 more tournament games to go, so I’m sure this thread will be put to good use :)

Onsite commentary: I have to say, as a fan at least, the Mandalay Bay Events Center is a step down from the MGM Grand Garden or whatever it’s called. The concessions are lame, and the crowd control setup for ingress and egress is awful. Felt like a cattle run in the Amarillo stockyards.

Griggsby starting for UW today, I think it's her first start of the year.

In place of the injured player? (I forget her name right now)

Wynn has been juggling her lineup. Miller is starting in place of injured Rees. Peterson started most of the season but has been moved to the bench. Watkins had been starting lately, not today.

I think Peterson has been a bit disappointing this season. Haven’t monitored her stats at all but it just feels like she hasn’t stepped up as she should have.

You are correct. She was pretty good last year. Her shooting really suffered while she was wearing a face mask, but beginning and end of year she was a sniper behind the arc.

This year she never found a rhythm, really poor shooting %, took a huge step backward.

The 4 point play, drives me nuts! If you are late closing out on a 3, just concede the shot. Nothing worse than compoudning the error by fouling after the shot is released. Utah in control early, UW launching bricks.

I just noticed these teams have identical 13-16 records. Either of them would need 4 more wins to be WNIT eligible — but if they win 4 games, they get the NCAA auto bid! I wonder what the odds are ... this is Vegas after all

And I also just realized this is a rematch of last year’s first round game that UW won. That was a 6-11 game but not really an upset after Utah had been decimated by injury.

And how much did it hurt Utah to lose P12 FOY Edwards to transfer? Huge loss for them.

That's what I was saying in another thread. Between losing Huff and Edwards, Utah has done fairly decent this year all things considered.

Washington was up 7, now only leading by 2. Long drought w/ bad shots and TOs.

Melgoza has 17, up to #8 on school career scoring list.

Proof positive that Wynn has the program moving in a positive direction.

Year 1: 12th
Year 2: 11th
Year 3: 9th

The improvement curve is actually accelerating.
