Pac-12 tonight (Fri. 1/18)

Stanford up 44-27 at half. The big 3 are doing their thing, Smith and Williams both in double figures and Carrington has 8.

Oregon State on a 21-6 run spanning the end of 2Q and start of 3Q.

Arizona just doesn't have the weapons to hang over 4 quarters with a strong defensive team like OSU.

OSU has surged ahead 45-30 to start Q3. What a night and day difference. Most of the game they couldn't do anything inside the arc. Now they can't miss. They were 2-12 at one point, now 10-20. So...8 straight?! Haven't attempted a 3 in quite a while.

McDonald is struggling. 4-16 from the floor. She had a tough game against Stanford too.

McDonald and Reese are both out for Arizona and they've actually scored a couple possessions in a row. OSU has missed a couple 3's back to back. Leaving the door open a crack. 47-34 exactly midway thru Q3, Arizona will be shooting a FT on an and-1 after the media TO.

McDonald heated up in a hurry, now has 17. Arizona was stuck for quite a while but now they are trading buckets. 60-49 OSU after Q3. They were up as much as 17.

4 OSU starters in double figures and the other has 8. Slocum leading the way w/ 13. Only 7 off the bench, but it's a lot different w/ no Tudor.

McDonald really came to life in the last few minutes of 3Q, now with 17 points.

Oregon St with really balanced scoring, 4 different players in double figures.

Slocum w/ back to back 3's to stretch it back to 17.

edit --make it 3 in a row!

Three consecutive 3s by Slocum just blew this game wide open. I think Arizona is toast.

It didn't look like the Slocum-McDonald face off was going to materialize early on. Now it's on! Slocum has 24, McDonald has 20. Slocum getting a lot more help though. 71-54 w/ about 6 minutes left.

As you said, Arizona does not have the (across the board) talent to make a go against the better PAC teams - this year. I do think it is only Stanford, the Oregon schools and Utah that are "impossible".

I really feel like Alonso is a liability. Her effort is certainly there but simply lacks the physical skills to go against these good teams. The other starters at least show glimpses of being able to complement McDonald.

Simmons and Morris in for OSU. Pivec has a double double w/ 14 points 10 boards.

I disagree (I think). She is streaky. When she is on, she can score quite a bit, but she is a reluctant shooter usually.

She is a darn good point-guard, one of the issues that I think Arizona faces is that there are still times where players don't do what they are supposed to on the court.

I will agree that she may be a defensive liability - I've not seen enough games against good competition. In the end, she is what she is, a European player with all implied. I would argue she is the 4th or 5th best player on Arizona right now.

86-64 final. 11-23 behind the arc for OSU. Big rebounding edge.

Alanna Smith with another blockbuster game for Stanford: 27 points on 12-18 shooting, 13 rebounds, 3 blocks. Kiana Williams adds 22 points, 3 assists, 3 steals.

Alanna Smith going wild again. 27 points on 12-18 shooting, 13 boards 3 blocks about midway thru Q4.

Just curious. If Aquino red shirted(I assumed she did) why does she dress for each game?

Reese was quiet much of the 2nd half but finished w/ 18 points on 8-12 shooting. Really solid game for her after she's been struggling a bit in conference play.

It's happened before, sometimes a redshirt is burned late in a season. Maybe they have her dressed and ready to go as an insurance policy. Rotation has gotten a lot thinner since early in the season.

Apparently Ruth Hamblin is in the house tonight and will be on Sunday as well. I didn't see her but I'm listening to a post game interview w/ Rueck and she just did a fly by.

You're probably right. I haven't watched Arizona many times this year. I see she's scored in double figures 5 times this season, 4 of them against really weak teams. The times I've watched them (Arizona State, Utah, Cal) she's seemed very harmless on offense and rather slow on defense.

She was on the same team in Belgium that Lous' sister Karlie is on. Pretty sure she was released from the team. I watched a few games and she did not play well.
