One does have to remember that all states are not created equal in terms of basketball talent and some state Gatorade players probably fall outside any rating service top 100, as states like TX and Cal have probably 10+ players each better than the Gatorade player from ID or VT for example.

Very true Maddie Sherr is more of an ok role player and was a Gatorade KY player of the year that was part of that overrated class of 5 two years ago.

I agree with that but you also have to remember that part of the component of being a Gatorade State Player is academics. You can't simply get by in the classroom. As such the best pure player in the State might not be the State POY.
