Pac 12 1/26/18

UW has UCLA a bit rattled. 35-30 Huskies leading, it's raining 3's (8-13 so far).

Oregon has taken control, leading 33-18. Bando is still out w/ a leg injury. They're getting no scoring from their bench, at least the 3rd game in a row that's happened.

I must've jinxed both teams. Scoring has almost stopped entirely in the UW-UCLA game in Q2.

What's going on with UCLA, they looked pretty good against UConn, beat Baylor (I know it was without Cox and Mulkey but still) and then they stunk it up. I thought Close was doing a really good job there, more so than Fargas ever did.

halftime scores:

Oregon 39
Colorado 32

Washington 37
UCLA 34

Cal 38
Arizona 17

Wazzou 36
USC 31

Stanford 41
ASU 26

At home they're pretty good. On the road is another story. That's been their M.O. for several years. I'm not convinced Close is anything more than an average coach. She's had plenty of talent there, hasn't really put it all together. This is supposed to be their year. They'll lose both Canada and Billings, gonna be hard to replace that duo.

Hannah Johnson has 9 pts/9 boards for UW. She's been doing some work on the glass lately! 16 and 17 in the previous 2 games, and well on her way to double figures again. Very likely to post her 3rd straight double-double.

UCLA goes on a 7-0 run to take a 49-48 lead. UW looks better than their record would suggest.

UCLA leading 62-61 after 3Q. Canada took over in the 3rd but the Huskies aren't going away.

10-1 run by UCLA to start Q4. Not sure UW has enough gas in the tank to rally, now down 10.

So here comes Stanford showing they belong again...

UW called a TO, but it did not stop the bleeding. 76-62 UCLA, shooting a pair of FTs. Huskies don't have a FG yet 5 minutes into Q4, just a single FT.

Cal 63 Arizona 39 final. Cats are pretty bad. Cal moves to 6-3 and stays w/in reach of the conference leaders. I had questions before the season if they could take a step up from last year. So far so good for them.

...and ASU fading fast, this will be their 4th loss in last 5 games.
I have seen ASU a few times and felt they were overrated. I like Charli but she’s not quite there yet.

USC was down 9 late in Q3. They rallied for a 73-72 win. Simon and Mazyck combined for 49 points.

Head bang The best game of the night.... they didnt even show on the Pac-12 network

If she's not there by now .... she'll never get there.

Oregon 74-55 final. Poor shooting night for Ionescu but she finished w/ 14 pts. 8 assists 7 reb. Hebard had 20 pts 9 reb. Finally got some bench scoring too.

USC-Wazzu? It was the only game not featuring a ranked team. Probably didn't anticipate such a barn burner.

Stanford and UCLA are both running away down the stretch. Very lopsided Q4 scoring discrepancies in both games.

I am not sure what to think of Lindsay. She was on the fast track a few years ago and never sustained. This team with Anigwe has underperformed vs. the hype IMO. I am still not sold but they are a Tourney team who may or may not make it to round 2.

UCLA 86-69. Q4 was 24-8. UW fights hard but they have no size and not nearly enough talent. Darn you Coach Neighbors and your crappy recruiting the last 3 years!

They've matched their win total in conference from last year, w/ 9 games left. Definitely a big improvement. I didn't think they were a legit contender for the conference title, but they've been solid. Without following them closely, it seems like they're getting more contributions from players other than just Anigwe this season.

I looked at the box score several times. McPhee had 5 points somewhere in Q3. She now has 24 on 9-11 shooting. After being on a roll coming back from her injury, she had several games where she was fairly quiet. Looks like she's back again. 74-50 final, Stanford pummels ASU.

That made me laugh as you are so right!
