P5 Proposal

I can't imagine they would do this, I guess anything is possible but by virtually eliminating 250 schools from the NCAA MBB tournament would really bring some political heat that I can't imagine the P5 would want. That's why I think they will always leave an opening for a non-P5 team to make their football playoff as well.

To specify that an institution is precluded from reducing or choosing to not renew a
student-athlete's athletically related grant-in-aid after the period of the award on the
basis of the student-athlete's athletics ability, performance or contribution to a team's
success; because of an injury, illness or physical or mental medical condition; or for

interesting proposal by the ACC, like they're trying to protect the student athlete or something

The SEC is apparently worried that the higher cost of living up north will allow northern schools to have higher costs, thereby allowing them to offer more.

Damn talk about outside looking in. This is very painful to read.

The rest of us will play in the NCAA tourney. This won't be the NCAA tourney.

The P5 Poobahs have proven they just don't care.

They clearly placed rules that turned into eliminating some really good Sports programs at name schools across the county. The P5 moves and Conference Realignment will axe Women's Programs and ... they just don't care. As we saw with UAB, there will be several Programs playing football at the highest level that will be cut. Next, you are going to see a ripple of others gone as the Cost of Attendance becomes a burden for the Non-P5 to keep up.

They really don't seem to care that March Madness has a specialness. They think placing their Tournament in NYC will have some good effect (when they do it once out of 6 years). It won't ever feel like the BE in MSG. They have a very narrow focus. I can honestly say that ... while they are grandfathering a whole host of less desirable Programs ... there is always the possibility that the go from 65 to 40 because they prize maximizing their Gross. And, then, you have reached the point ... that they have really become the Pro Level.

March Madness is about David beating Goliath the first 2 weeks....if it's Goliath beating Goliath the entire 3 weeks nobody will care.

this is the point I've been making all along

I honestly don't really give a anymore. The P5 is gonna do what it's gonna do and there's not a thing we can do about it.

If we get an invite sometime down the line, great. If not, whatever. It's time we started trying to enjoy the games and competition we do have and stop constantly worrying about what we don't.

They just completely took over college athletics and there wasn't a peep from anyone against them.

There's no opening for a non-P5 school in the playoffs - it is purely impossible for a G5 school to get past that committee.

Given all that, what makes you think they won't start eyeing the basketball cash? What's to stop them?

I'm sure somewhere down the road when they make a documentary on what destroyed college athletics we'll look at this era as the nail on the coffin.

Well, I explained what I think stops them; politics. the numbers, 65 against 250 is a little different than 65 against 59 or whatever the number of non-P5 FBS schools there are.

College athletics and the power 5 are a reflection of what American society has become these day. Those that have the wealth want more and more and want it for themselves. They don't give a single fuc* about the greater good. All they want is their money and to not be associated with the have nots. Little do they know that by killing the small schools they are slowly killing themselves.

You need the Smaller schools to beat up on and to make the competition more inclusive and worthwhile for the average viewer. the power 5 will eventually pay the price

It sounds like sour grapes coming from us, because this fanbase really has been caused a lot of pain by conference realignment (and I think when all is said and done UConn will be seen as the ultimate loser in all this), but this is an important point.

The casual fan enjoys the David and Goliath aspect of college competition. I can see a lot of people just not watching anymore when the P5 basically turns college into a 2nd rate pro league.

Won't get a nickel from me if they go that way.
