Has anyone been keeping a running total of the number of players that have opted out so far? If so, what’s the number? The over/under was 6. I predicted waaayyyy over. I’m interested to learn where my prediction stands.

The opt out number is currently at 10. I predicted that it was going to be at least 20 and it looks that it might be well short of that number.

Tiffany Hayes, Atlanta Dream
Renee Montgomery, Atlanta Dream
Jonquel Jones, Connecticut Sun
Liz Cambage, Las Vegas Aces
Chiney Ogwumike, Los Angeles Sparks
Kristi Toliver, Los Angeles Sparks
Cecilia Zandalasini, Minnesota Lynx
Rebecca Allen, New York Liberty
LaToya Sanders, Washington Mystics
Natasha Cloud, Washington Mystics

Thanks sivad40. There are some marquee names here. You could field a very competitive team with those listed.

Not a player but Sky assistant coach Bridget Pettis resigning. Not satisfied with the procedures (+ wanting to spend more time at the grass roots level of her community)

The tally of WNBA opt outs on active rosters stood at 7 at the initial declaration deadline of June 25. Three players opted out after the deadline to raise the growing total to 10.

WNBA players are scheduled to arrive in Bradenton, Florida today. One can expect to hear of others opting out of the WNBA bubble during the next few days. The experiment begins....

I dont know how these numbers compare to other areas. IMG is in Bradenton which is in Manatee County. Overall population of 403K and 3700+ have tested positive with 285 hospitalizations.
I hope this all works out and they all remain safe(especially #33)

Wonder how this will affect her WNBA future

I think Chiney is a very good listen on Radio When she does TV spots, I find her less so. I think she tries to act overly hip on TV but she is much more relaxed on radio imo.

From ESPN website -

Although some WNBA players offered positive reviews of their accommodations upon arriving for the league's resumption of play, others found rodent traps, bugs and showers that didn't drain.

The dramatically differing experiences in the WNBA's self-styled "bubble," which many chronicled on social media, underscored preexisting concerns about the league's preparedness and organization as it attempts to stage a 22-game regular season and playoffs at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida.

I’ve never heard her on radio but I actually enjoy her upbeat energy on TV. While they differ in commentary I like to compare her style to Courtney Lyle from SEC Network... they both have high energy & use colorful analogies to commentate on the games making it fun for me at least :)

Elena Della Donne is not at IMG, the Mystics says she is in a medical protocol.

Also Tina Charles.

and this should change the power rankings.:eek:

Charles, a 2010 UConn grad who won two national titles as a Husky, and Delle Donne, the 2019 league MVP, are waiting to hear back from an independent panel of doctors that will review their cases for having preexisting health conditions. Should the panel determine they are medically excused for the season, they will be paid 100% of their salaries. They can also opt out of playing if they are not medically excused, but would not be paid.

Per Doug Feinberg of The Associated Press, if the Mystics still have to pay both Charles and Delle Donne, the reigning WNBA champions will be left with 10 players and won’t be able to sign an additional player.

Kyrie giving $1.5 million to assist WNBA players who opted out.

I never would have expected Kyrie to do that (especially in front of other NBA players who I felt had a much closer association to WNBA or women's basketball in general),. I guess I have to change my opinion of him a bit,.:oops:

Florida is a hotbed for the Corona virus right now. I wonder how many other venues across the country that had similar facilities that were seriously considered by the WNBA?
