While attending last nights game and watching Giffey and his teammates knocking down 3s at a prolific rate, I said to the folks I attended the game with that this team must have by far the best 3pt shooting % of any UConn team ever.
Now I know it's early, just 2 games in, and we have many tough defensive teams coming up, but nonetheless they've come out of the gate killing it from deep.
They've shot it from beyond the arc (54%) almost as well as they have overall (55%). Compared that to:
34% & 44% respectively in 2012-13 season
32% & 45% in 2011-12 season
33% & 45% in 2033% & 43% in 2010-11 (Kemba) season
They are 32 for 59 from 3. But if you remove the slumping Daniels #s (1-7) they are 31 for 52 which statistically rounds up to 60%. Wow! How about these player #s:
Giffey 11-13, 85%
Bazz 4-5, 80%
Boatshow 5-10, 50%
Olander 2-2, 100%
Kromah 1-2, 50%
Omar (not crazy efficient but still...) 8-18, 44% which is very good from deep.
The not so good are:
Daniels 1-7, 14% (He'll come around)
Samuel 0-1 (Shouldn't be even thinking about shooting it from deep at this stage)
Tolksdorf 0-1 (He's a good shooter. Obviously too small a sample and his numbers won't reflect his abilities since it's hard to knock down 3s at a solid clip when you have to come off the bench cold and only get a few minutes here and there.)
Now I don't expect them to keep up this pace, but I wouldn't be shocked if this team ends up with the best 3 point shooting percentage ever at UConn and does it by plenty.
