Other teams you like / root for (or don't)

For me it is:

UConn first (alumni). I then follow Minnesota (home state & family connection), Michigan (family connection), Gonzaga (former player connection), and Fresno State (old coach connection).

Likes: UConn/Princeton/Vandy/TX/'Nova (when Harry was there)/DePaul (when Doug was there)/Michigan/IA/L'ville/NC St/Fairfield/USFL (when Jose was there)/I like Jim Flannery of Creighton/ Mostly because of their HC!

Dislikes: MD/TN/ND/LSU/SoCar/

WNBA likes: Liberty/CT Sun/

WNBA Dislikes: Las Vegas/

None of the four schools from which I have degrees has a competitive WCBB team, so I've never really rooted for any them, although I sort of follow three of them with sporadic and distant interest. UConn is the only women's college team I've ever really rooted for.

I'm not particularly emotional about it. It's just seasonal entertainment.

Other than rooting against UConn's opponents during games, I've never had any animosity toward or dislike of any program or coach.

I do watch quite a few other women's college teams on TV or stream, not because I root for any of them, but just because basketball has been my favorite team sport all my life. However, when I watch games other than UConn, I often do find myself rooting for one of the teams in that particular game for various and unpredictable reasons.

I watch the WNBA far less than college, but I've never had a rooting interest in any WNBA team. I mainly just follow a few players I like. I probably like watching high school games with high level recruits more than I do the WNBA.
One more school and you win a panda doll…

Interesting question! We've (both alums) been pretty die-hard fans of Huskies' WBB since Meghan Pattyson was playing, so the teams we kinda tolerate and the ones we loathe have morphed over time. Teams that we're pleased to see win (usually because of the coach) are Princeton and Oregon State. Somewhat less enthusiasm for Duke (we like Kara but... it's still Duke), Creighton (Flannery despite the BE rivalry), and L'ville.

Since we live in the Northwest we used to have a soft spot for the Pac-12 but in the wake of the mass defections we threw most of that lot under the bus (despite grandchildren attending UW). Looking forward to Gonzaga's joining the conference (a niece went there and... Ines!).

We're usually delighted to see the following lose: ND, TN, LSU, ND, ISU, Rutgers and ND. Less delighted (but still brings a smile to our face) to see MD, OSU and PSU founder.

And except as noted above, we're usually pleased to see ANY team in the ACC, Big10, Big12 or SEC lose.

:-)

Sensing a theme here. Can't place my finger on it though. 😉

By and large I just like good basketball and gracious fans. So teams that play ugly, have poor coaching vs. just outstanding recruiting and poor sport fan bases are all on my "Dislike list".

Pros-Iowa, Michigan, Louisville, SC, Texas, LSU, Vandy, Oklahoma, Villanova, St John's, Creighton, South Dakota State, URI and any teams playing my dislike list. when teams on the dislike list play each other if one team is Tennessee, I want the LV's to lose.

Cons-SoCal, UCLA, TENNESSEE, UNC, Ole Miss, Baylor, Iowa State, Texas Tech, TCU, Purdue, PSU, Rutgers, Georgia, Providence College

Neutral most times but fall into one of the above categories at times-Stanford, Duke, ND, Alabama, Kentucky, rest of the Big East.

No mention of Wilmington, App State or ECU? (or Charlotte but I mean I don’t disagree there). IMO you have the Camels too low on your list.

Solid list though. Respect.

Haha. The one team I've paid zero attention to is NYU, which dropped DI men's basketball in the 1970s, long before I became interested in WCBB. It turns out that NYU not only has a DIII women's program, but they've won the last two DIII NCs and currently have an 82-game undefeated streak, the third longest winning streak in NCAA history after UConn.

I have no clue as to why... but I usually pull for Duke as a second team.
I'm a Kara fan more than I am a Duke fan. I'm pulling for Duke, but only because she is there. If she were anywhere else (other than Tennessee or Notre Dame) I'd probably root for that team.

Most I understand but is there a story behind William and Mary?
They have a habit of beating all of his mid major teams he follows.

I wrote this in another thread a few months ago that explains my disdain for W&M

Last season in March in the CAA tournament they upset the #1 Seed NC A&T and then defeated the Camels of Campbell in the Championship game. The first t game in the NCAA tournament, they eliminated my Panthers of High Point. Mind you this all took place in a 7 day period. Then a few days ago, they stopped Wake Forests 9-0 start to the season The Tribe ran through the Triad teams like General Sherman ran through Georgia.

Yes, little ol William and Mary.... The Bane of my existence since March.

They fall into my other NC schools .. didn't have time to list them all. One of the great things of March is that many conferences are represented among the NC schools, so there are usually multiple schools playing for their various conference championships.

Me too. Loved her as an announcer

Amen.
Graciousness does go out the window for rivalry games

Root for NC State.

Root against UNC.

The rest kinda come and go based on coaches and players and how it effects NC State or if any of their fans have seemed annoying to me.
Generally I tend to root against Maryland most of the time in all sports, but then again I tend to root against the Big 10 in general and in a way I don't mind seeing Maryland beat up on the old guard of the Big 10. Complicated situation. In the SEC I tend to pull against Tennessee in most sports and after attending a State/Vandy CWS game and being around "the whistler" who was one of the most annoying fans I've been around - I tend to root against Vandy as well. I have next to no feelings one way or the other about the Big 12, probably tend to pull for teams from that conference over the SEC or Big 10 just because they represent a similar situation the ACC is in compared to those 2 power conferences. Within the ACC, outside of the obvious distaste for the baby blues, I tend to root against Syracuse and Notre Dame. Syracuse has some annoying fans at least on the men's side and never cared for Boeheim. ND I don't think needs to be explained.

UConn is my ride or die. I like to see Vanderbilt, Louisville, Stanford and UCLA do well.

If any of these teams were playing each other, I’d hope they both lose…Tennessee, Notre Dame, South Carolina, Ole Miss and LSU.
Makes perfect sense.
