More trouble for ranked Big Ten teams: Northwestern leads #25 Indiana by 10 in 3Q.
#20 Rutgers, trying to buck that trend, has built an 8-point lead over Purdue at end of 3Q.

Just underway:
  • #11 Texas at Kansas State
  • #2 Baylor at Kansas
  • Texas Tech at TCU
Meanwhile, UCF continues to roll with a 60-44 win over Tulsa. They move to 15-2 on the season, 4-0 in the AAC.

Kansas St. leading Texas 27-13 at halftime? 13 points in a half? That's what ESPN is showing. Yikes.

edited--ESPN is all wonky. I think that's actually the score after Q1.

Purdue has gotten the lead down to 4 against Rutgers, about 5 1/2 minutes left.

Baylor having no trouble w/ Kansas, up 29-15 after 1. Maybe Texas can borrow a few points from Baylor.

Purdue was down 14 and scored 8 quick points to cut the lead to 6. Now a free throw by Harris makes it 5 with 2:00 to play.

Rutgers is choking this game away in epic fashion. Live-ball turnover leads to a foul that puts McLaughlin on the line, who is one of the best FT shooters in the country. It's a 2-point game with 50 seconds to play.

This is unreal. Rutgers, with a 2-point lead, misses a shot with about 25 seconds left. Stasha Carey gets the offensive rebound and then, instead of pulling it back out, attempts the putback. She misses, Purdue gets the rebound, and now has the ball with 20 seconds to play.

Baylor freshmen post players Egbo and Smith have been impressive.

I honestly think the offense will flow a bit better after Brown leaves

Rutgers was in total control of the game, leading 54-40 with less than 5 minutes to play.

They proceed to then screw up every offensive and defensive possession thereafter, to allow Purdue to outscore them 14-0 in the final 4:50. Overtime.

Yeah, one of their apps still lists every women's game as going into 2OT because of the 4 periods.
It's understandable though, this is only the 3rd? season of the women using 4 quarters.

Northwestern gets the road win at #25 Indiana, continuing the anarchy in the Big Ten.

Rutgers, despite doing nearly everything in their power to blow a massive 4Q lead, survives Purdue by 2 points in OT.

K St up 74-58 midway thru 4th

Not a good night for B12 ranked teams. Even Baylor only up 77-62 on Kansas.

Final score 87-69. K-State shoots 11-19 from 3 and 16-18 from the FT line. Dominated the game from start to finish.

Teams ranked #11-#25 went 1-3 tonight. Only #20 Rutgers (barely) won, at home in overtime.

Ha, well clearly #11 is way too high for any team who's lost to Tennessee.
and K-State.

Although, I thought K-State played solid fundamental basketball. I also thought the K-State head coach called great timeouts, and, his team responded. First time I have seen K-State play.

In another significant upset, Central Michigan (currently #22 in Massey, and projected by Charlie Creme as a #8 seed) lost at home to Miami of Ohio.

That means that every team in the MAC has at least one conference loss.

If you would have told me Rutgers was going to be the Big-10 leader through 6 games, I would have laughed.
I would have laughed too, but the more I watch this team, the more confidence I have in them. This is a very different team from last year. We do not have one go to player like Tyler Scaife, so everyone knows they might need to be the one who has to step up and make a big play on offense. I think this has made them better at playing together and relying on each other. We also had a lot of injuries early in the season and now we are basically healthy, although I doubt KK Sanders, who was expected to be our starting point guard, will play this season (rehabbing from wrist surgery). We also didn't have CC Cryor, now our starting point guard, for the first 10 games of the season as she was suspended for breaking an unspecified team rule. Last night, she fouled out in the fourth quarter, which definitely contributed to helping Purdue come back. CC is our best ball handler and a very good defender despite only being 5'5". While I don't think we are a top ten team at this point, I think we deserve to be ranked. All of our losses were early in the season when we were short handed and just learning to play together as a team. We also have a deep bench. I think, if we stay healthy, we have a chance to be the B1G champions and a tough out for anyone in March.

In addition to tonight's two marquee games between ranked teams, I'm keeping my eye on some other games that could have tournament seeding implications.

I've noted in bold the teams projected to be in the NCAA tournament in Charlie's latest bracketology, with projected seeding in brackets.

(All times Eastern.)

Big Ten
  • #9 Maryland [3] @ #17 Michigan St [6] (6p, BTN)
  • Ohio St @ Penn St (7p, BTN Plus)
  • Michigan @ #22 Iowa [5] (8p, BTN)
  • #23 Minnesota [first 4 out] @ Wisconsin (8p, BTN Plus)
  • Nebraska @ Illinois (8p, BTN Plus)
ACC (all games at 7p on ACCN)
  • Virginia @ #4 Louisville [1]
  • #12 Syracuse [3] @ Pitt
  • Florida St [5] @ Boston College
  • Georgia Tech [12] @ Clemson [10]. Who'dathunk that these two would be on the bubble.
  • Miami [7] @ Duke. If Duke has any hope of building an at-large resume, it needs to start with a win here.
  • Wake Forest @ North Carolina
SEC
  • #15 South Carolina [6] @ #7 Mississippi St [2] (7p, ESPN)
  • Georgia [10] @ Missouri [9] (7p, SECN). This one may be overshadowed by the SC-MsSt game being played at the same time.
  • #16 Kentucky [5] @ LSU [first 4 out] (7:30p, SECN Plus). LSU really needs a win at home here. Will Maci Morris play?
  • Auburn [8] @ Vanderbilt (8p, SECN Plus)
  • #20 Tennessee [6] @ Alabama (9p, SECN). Can we make it four in a row tonight?
Other
  • #13 Gonzaga [4] @ BYU [10] (9p, BYUTV: Home - BYUtv). This could be Gonzaga's toughest test in the West Coast Conference.

I have to say I agree with you. They are both very athletic and can guard a lot easier when pulled out of the paint. With the news of Morris not returning, I am sure Landrum will slide into the the PG position and Smith will slide into the 4 spot. Leaving a guard position open.
