OT: Which Lake Of Isles golf course is better?

Anyone know which of the two courses is considered superior? More interesting? Tougher? Prettier?

I could be wrong but I thought one of them was members only? I played the public one the day before my friends wedding this summer and it was great. Tough, pretty holes and a lot of water! Of course I played during the beginnings of a tropical storm in June. Not sure I'd pay the entire greens fee's to play there again but definitely a cool place.

Only played the public as well. It was a nice course. I hear the private is a monster, been trying to play it for years but to drive an hour or so to get there and perhaps play badly is too risky for me.

The public course is gorgeous. IMO, nicest course in Connecticut. Gorgeous landscape, and complementary balls, tees, and water in your cart. Place is legit.

Extremely long course though. If you can't hit your driver, I'd go elsewhere...

I went there as a kid, when it was a boy scout camp. So it will be fun just to see what they have done with it.

They used to rotate the courses from public to private each year but that stopped a few years ago. You can only play the South Course (private) with a member or as part of the member for a day package that includes rounds on both courses and a night at the MGM....something like $400 but comes with a bunch of food and gambling vouchers.

The story I heard was that the North was the public course, because the members liked the South better. Then they decided the North was nicer, so they switched. Now it's back to the North as the public course. Both are probably quite similar as they were done around the same lake, by the same guy, around the same time. I think they both opened the same year. Played the North twice in scrambles and it is spectacular. One of the nicest I've ever played. Lots of forced carrys though... bring your A game.

We know the members changed courses after a year for a reason.....whether the reason is the original was too hard or not in as good as shape as the other we don't know......but I haven't played them but I hear they're both beautiful........and you need to have a huge tee game to compete!!
