Agree... not only the game but the bowl is a joke. There are too many available facilities to be playing football anywhere but on a football field.
Surprised this game is even played this late in the bowl season which gives it credibility over such greats as The Potato Bowl.....

i would have also becuase its uconn and its close(that would mean we were a ok fball team going 8-4 and things would be different coach wise etc anyway..). it doesn't make up for the fact its a bowl. same with the one at the nationals ballpark. both of these should be happening but at the fball stadiums(giants and skins). they are 2 good cities and north ones that should be included in more big time bowls in the future becuase of the cities they are in. right now they are both a joke with the tie ins and locations. half of yankee stadium isn't enjoyable seating wise and they barely fit the field to begin with.

i imagine vtech wvu at skins stadium or cuse ruty in the meadowlands as good bowl games for the future when all the CR and playoof stuff gets sorted out.

It's a good point. It's a bit of a novelty to play in baseball stadiums but the seats do suck. Novelty wears off fast.

I thought about this but these games can't even sell out baseball stadiums with reduced seating. The Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl is played at AT&T Park also and they were half full. Bowls are dying entities. There's a reason they aren't played in more NFL stadiums....

Agree 100% that RFK.2 deserves a college bowl game. No need to put a bowl game in a baseball park when that city has such a rabid NFL fan base and a perfect, available football venue.

On the other hand, I kind of like the game in Yankee Stadium. I'm a huge Yankee fan and although it's not THE OLD stadium, there's still some "football history" in the Bronx. I like the vintage feel, just wish the bowl was more important in the grand scheme of things.

I'm afraid you're right with that statement. Lots of other options for people's entertainment dollars these days.

We could probably pool our cash and host a lower tier bowl game in a few years. I've got almost 3 acres of semi-level backyard. I can guarantee the turf will be in good shape but can't promise that deer shit won't be a factor. The barn on the visitor's side of the 50 might be an issue but should be cancelled out by the woodpile that covers half the home endzone.

I'm in Fairfield County though, so based on our marketing, it would be sort of an away game if UConn ever got in.

YES, just i like 12 games still and start the school year at all schools a week earlier and fball season as result also. make the school year end a week earlier in early may. would solve a lot of issues.

Definitely could squeeze 12 by moving back start by one week. In any event, this is so doable, I don't understand any objection other than the season gets longer for a select few. In terms of Bowls, you could allocate the big bowl venues among the elite 8, final four, and championship and rotate. The dollars and interest generated would be magnitudes greater than the current structure.

i think the playoff should be home field for higher ranked school. but put in place a rule that the field must be atleast 60k seating. so if a toldedo type makes a run then becuase of the issue the game gets moved to the closest possible field. like a pro place or another close school that fits the need. its its distance wise or logisitcs wise to muc and doesn't make sense(can be a ruling by the selction commit that also picks and ranks the 32 teams) then the home field goes to the other team. a rule like hat i think would encourage big boy behavior but also give every schools a fair chance. wake forest makes it, good for them they can play a game in char or elsewhere as needed. fair game. uconn makes it and the rent is not a 60k palace like i dream, then foxboro or giants are called for the game....

scrap bowls legancy wise, ppl are just going to have to get over it. make the ship game like the super bowl, annouce it a year early and all that jazz. it will sell out pre game and school won't have to be on the hook for a lot. no reserve for schools, all 2nd market. lets see what fanbasses travel and which have big donors who cover up ugly truths. a lot of one color would be very cool in the stands but a lot of just casual fans will be the result which will lead to big $. u could argue leave the schools a small reserve of like 5k or something. fine.

Agree. Seems like a no-brainer to reformat along these lines. Not sure what forces are at play that make a tournament format so difficult.

RFK is actually an old multi-purpose cookie cutter stadium along the lines of 3 Rivers (Pitt), Riverfront (Cinci), Veterans (Philly), and Shea (NYC). I include Shea because the lower bowl at RFK rotates like Shea used to before it went baseball only. RFK seats about 53,000 for football and it was good enough for the Redskins prior to FedEx Field and many prefer it to FedEx due to the intimacy. (minimal luxery boxes and the seats are close to the field. FedEx seats over 80,000). Soccer-only stadiums in this country seat about 20,000.

My proposal would be to eliminate all the conference championship games so all teams only play 12 games. (Other than the SEC title game, all other championships have been massive failures so this might not be such a radical idea).

Then have 4 different 16 team tournaments (class A, class B, class C and class D). The top 16 teams go to the Class A tournament. The next 16 go to the Class B tournament and so on. A conference champion would at the very least have access to the Class D tournament.

Essentially the winner of the Class A tournament would be National Champions, the other classes are there just to provide a post season reward for the remaining teams.

The higher seeded teams would host games and the finals would be played at the Rose Bowl, Sugar Bowl, Fiesta Bowl and Orange Bowl on a rotating basis.

Right now 68 teams go to a bowl game, in this setup 64 teams would have access to post season play.

I completely agree with this. I don't expect every beat writer to be fans of the teams/schools that they cover. I understand journalism is very much a nomadic profession and being a fan of another team or school is just going to happen. But I can't stand it when Des throws his Fruit hat on, especially during a time when UConn fans are extra sensitive to it because of everything that has happened in CR. Time to put away the Orange foam finger and quietly root for your team, Des. It makes UConn look bad and irrelevant within its own hometown media when you have beat writers openly rooting for its archival. Am I being extra sensitive over this? Absolutely. And I will continue to be overly sensitive until the day that UConn has a more stable conference home.
