With Ronaldo, you shouldn't be above this. He's exactly the kind of player I love to hate.

Did anyone watch the most recent episode of that ESPN mini-series on the USMNT's preparations for Brazil? A couple of those guys sounded in awe (or downright terrified) of the prospect of trying to contain Ronaldo.

As a diehard USA supporter, I'm not above this either. We were put in the group of death, so we will take any breaks we can get.

Ronaldo is a prolific scorer, tying Luis Suarez for the most goals in domestic action in Europe this season. Attackers like Ronaldo, Suarez, Messi, Neymar, Sturridge etc would scare any backline and keeper because they can do so much in space or off the ball. I wouldn't put too much stock into a team giving praise to a top attacker before the world cup.

Not to knock my own thread off course, as I'd certainly encourage more Ronaldo bashing, but I can't for the life of me figure out why Messi has been so pedestrian with the international team. People say it's La Liga, but a lot of other guys from that league have no problem, so that can't be it.

Oh, and I love watching Neymar play. Can't wait to watch him at home in this WC.

Sorry, I disagree. Yedlin said - about the prospect of taking on Ronaldo - "I'm trying not to think about it." That's not a good look. Everyone knows these guys are good. You can at least feign some confidence.

My buddy and I shared a "were screwed" moment when that scene aired. I compared it to the Chinese National basketball team watching footage of Lebron.

My girlfriend knows less than nothing about the US team or soccer generally and she said "wow, you could at least pretend not to be intimidated."

That's definitely a sign of a kid who's a bit too young for the moment. We'll see how he responds, but he's definitely got a future on the USMNT in any case.

I love watching Neymar too. He's supremely talented, for sure.

I would love watching him more, however, if he didn't dive and fake getting fouled about 5-10 times per match. He's talented enough that he doesn't need to employ such a lame trick. Although the refs continue to give him the benefit of the doubt, and I'm sure even more so playing at home.

Yeah, I've been wondering how the refs will operate in this WC. Home country always gets an advantage, but in Brazil? Where they have no problem threatening, shooting at and even killing refs....I wonder how much they'll respond to that pressure.

Diving sucks all around in Soccer, but even more so the guys who make an 'art' out of it.

I think he's been in Spain so long, he cant figure out why they haven't given him a jersey yet.

agreed but watching it in slow motion makes it even more dramatic... I wonder how Brasil will respond if Argentina wins the WC some how IN BRASIL! I think Brasil will implode, they are the most bitter rivals

I think bc Messi had Maradona as a coach and at the time had him playing out of position at the center forward position. Also if i remember their midfield and some of their defense has been on their way out... This year I feel he is primed to make a run, he's won absolutely everything he can as an individual and team wise, except the WC

Going to be really tough for an Argentine squad to win in Brazil.

EDIT: ha, I wrote this before I read your other post. I just don't see Argentina, of all countries, coming out on top down there. If they do, it might make Andres Escobar looking like a merciful outcome.

Translation: I have a tiny penis.

This was hilarious. One of the strangest oddities about the subject of soccer is it brings out all the people who just have declare how bad soccer is and how much they hate it. On clearly labeled threads I might add. It's literally like clockwork.

I now have the itch to start another USMNT thread or two.
