Looks like our old friend Eldrick Woods is in the hunt. I'm far from an avid golf fan, but when Eldrick's in the hunt on Saturday or Sunday it makes for good TV.

Tiger played so much worse than anyone else near the top. Hes still (somewhat) in it.

Tiger can only hope the field comes back. As special as he has been on some Sunday's in the past this course is not set up for him to get back to EVEN nevermind -1.....you never know but I doubt it. Plus there's some great names in front who have been there before............he's never won a major when not tied or in the lead going into the final round which is pretty crazy. Love to see it.
Question I have is when does he get away from the "plan" he had which was lots of stingers off the tee and 3 woods? That plan was desigend for control and lots of pars not necessarily for aggreesiveness and birdies...........he may lose touch if he strays and takes out the big boy!!!

Well hes got to do something differently, putting better comes to mind first. Yesterday he didnt make a single putt outside of probly 5 feet.

He didn't do much of anything good yesterday. He was near the top of fairways and greens after Friday. He was missing a lot of both yesterday. And when he had short irons into greens, his distance control sucked leaving 25 footers instead of 12 footers. Oh, and his sand play was horrible.
He's got nothing to lose at this point. Take out the driver and see if he can give himself a chance to make some birdies. For him, it doesn't matter if he finishes 2nd or 40th. If it's not a win, it's a loss unlike a lot of players who need points, money, etc.

2 Two 68's on the weekend at that course with the likes of Woods, McDowell, Furyk, Els on the leaderboard ahead is very impressive. Congrats to Webb Simpson for his first major, he's a nice player!!

this was typical of the US where par was considered a great score. The pros hated those kind of fields, they much prefer a course set up like the Masters where htting it into the rough just means you have to settle for a long birdie put rather than a short one. And they have had a few courses like that in recent opens. Congressional last year,Olympia fields a few years ago, Pebble in 2000. And don't get me wrong, I love the Masters. It is the most spectaclar course and the best run tournament ever. but the US Open is a different beast. The way to play the game is to hit fairways, hit greens and make pars. When you get the limited number of birdies, you have to make them.
