That's one of the problems with the 'TV show runner' phenomenon these days. They might give an interview and say something, but fact is their show stands alone as the art and that kid is doing absolutely nothing but wandering around dumb as a doorknob. They chose the actor very poorly (probably all on innocent look) and although the producer might say he's very important his MOM AND DAD don't treat him importanly at all (not trying to teach him like say Sarah Connor in Terminator) and are constantly losing track of him. That's back to my issue, long term plot narrative is totally absent and characters are run about like headless chickens just to create some scene drama

I guess if interviewed the producers would say the future of mankind is unguided, dimwitted and lacking direction.

Sounds about right (in regard to the future of mankind)

There is a lot of scene drama, but that's probably because they're making a television show.

If I were in their situation, the entire show would have consisted of me slowly starving to death in the tree that I'd climbed to get away from the zombies.

Perhaps a more logical choice, but bad television.

I would watch that, if it was really you starving in the tree.

More spoilers:

You give the writers too much credit - they're following an already written script (although I don't know anyone who reads the comics). They actually let Shane live longer on TV than in the comics.

Next season is supposed to be "darker" as the group is threatened as much by other survivors as the zombies. The head chopper - Michonne - becomes a major character. The gang ends up in a prison, with some wacko who calls himself "The Governor" and who, in the comics, mutilates Rick. And Merle does return.

There have been some deviations from the comics so far. Shane sticking around as long as he did, the trip to the CDC and no Tyresse, who was a really good character, are big differences to me. I wonder how much of the Governor's insanity they can actually put on television. It's an understatement to say that he really changed things for the main characters.

I think that'd actually be a pretty cool episode. Send the short-haired Mom into the woods one day and then up a tree when a few zombies show. Then over the course of the hour we flash back to her slowly losing her grip up the tree as more and more zombies assemble. Kind of Hitchcockian horror as she sees no way out and has a couple of near miss falls. Then finally she just willingly dives into the zombies, takes a couple out but also splatters her guts sufficiently to feed the herd. If their simpleton writers steal this idea they'd change it to have her up the tree retrieving a kite for the nitwit little boy and they'd rescue her and the stupid kite. In contrast I'd actually open ever single episode with a random unknown wandering the earth that is suddenly overtaken by zombies.

A dark governor and the weird machette wielding characters are welcome riffs into the supernatural. The show is about implausible zombies yet for everything else they stick rigidly to current physical laws ? Unlike some, I have no need to poke holes in how they get cars, food and gas whhile I'm buying into zombies defeating all comers and walking the earth.
