Better sandwich

I'm not arguing as I picked a BEC myself, just saying a pig so engrained into American culture that's it's normalized. A pig is a more disgusting animal then a fish just saying.
I don't know. A pig will roll in its own poop and pee, but a fish breathes its own poop and pee.

BEC is best served on a softer roll or bread. I'm not a big fan of bagel sandwiches in general but a large schmear of cream cheese and lox on a half bagel is delicious

BEC on a good poppyseed roll….really freaking hard to beat.

No one should try to get the death penalty, but if you happen to get it, that has to rank as a last meal option.

This may be the biggest mismatch ever.

Lox, cream cheese, capers, red onion blows it away.

I cure my own sockeye but there still aren't any bagels in Chicago like NJ bagels.

Intrigued. How do you do your cure?

Easily lox. Lemme get schmear, lox, tomato, thinly sliced raw red onion and a little bit of capers and BAM.

BEC are for rolls.
Really only works in late summer when tomatoes are primo. But the lox, philly, red onion & capers works all year long.

The BEC needs to be Taylor ham, egg and cheese on a roll.
Jersey friend convinced me to try it once. Never again. There is just no world in which that is close to a BEC. I’m convinced the only reason people order it is nostalgia and some weird Jersey regional pride.

.-.
Rosemary Olive Oil Bagel toasted with BE or SE.

Juat the word lox sounds gross so I will never try it.

I am abstaining because most of the bagels here in CA are bogus. When I visit CT it becomes all about the food. Real bagels, real pizza, whole belly fried clams, Harry's hamburgers. I have also cut WAY back on bread.

I went from 265 to 209 when I stopped eating bread (and rice). So I say neither!!!
There are over 70 grams of carb in a large bagel, so you are right on. I try to mitigate it by eating 1/2 of one. I love bagels, could eat 2 like my son in law but can’t go there due to inability to burn those carbs off. And yes I exercise quite a lot.
Wouldn’t it be great if there was a pill that let you eat all the carbs you could stuff?

My bagel hot take: the difference between the best bagel you've ever had in your life and a perfectly adequate bagel is not nearly big enough to justify going out of your way for the former.

As for the question at hand: BEC is best on a soft roll or, in some cases, a biscuit or even toast. I'm certainly not above a BEC on a bagel, but it's not my preferred delivery vehicle.
The worst bagel take ever. SoCal gonna SoCal.

I'd agree pigs are disgusting and, to be honest, most animals we eat are gross if you really look at them.

I'm more coming from the fact that lox is a super fishy taste in your mouth with a nice hot coffee and a recipe for singing the eyebrows off of anyone you talk to the rest of that morning.

post/Avatar picture. 😀 That sandwich keeps the carbs down. Sodium could be an issue though.

I was low carb for a long time. I put my diet and exercise into AI and it told me I need to eat MORE carbs post workout!! To replenish glycogen. Who knew? Maybe y aren’t eating enough carbs?

My wife started baking organic sourdough so i get to enjoy some carbs now

It's really simple. I buy sockeye salmon at the Wild Fork by me for like $13 per lb. and all you need is salt and sugar. Mix equal parts kosher salt and sugar but I go a little heavier with the salt. You can add crushed black pepper or fresh dill. Lemon zest, orange zest and whatever herbs you like but just kosher salt and sugar works perfectly.

Coat both sides of the salmon with a heavy coating of the salt and sugar mixture in a tray skin side down and then wrap it with plastic wrap. I put a cast iron skillet on it and leave it in the fridge for at least 48 hours. you need something heavy to sit on it. Rinse the salmon off and it's good to go.

The best way to catch a salmon is to put one of its own eggs on a hook.

If you want to advocate on behalf of the infanticidal maniac over an adorable lil piglet, that’s on you.

Very cool. Thank you.

Oh man, I love fried whole belly clams so much. I still think about eating seafood in Maine, lobster done every which way but the whole bellies are what I really remember.

Only for the people who reside in the culinary wasteland of Wethersfield/Rocky Hill or wherever it is your Hartford Giant Grinder palate resides.

Tremendous bagels in Fort Lauderdale at Goldberg Bagel . They have been in business for 40 years here. I think they were originally from Brooklyn. Wonderful nova and white fish

Best bagel place? For me, Absolute Bagels on the UWS, but I think it got shut down by the tax authorities.

I have to clarify. I think the best BEC sammich would be on a soft hard roll because I don't dig on bagel sammiches. That said, it is still a better sandwich than a bagel with lox and cream cheese. I never considered that a sandwich anyway. It is a bagel with lox and cream cheese. And the sandwich has to have a lot of bacon, no skimping. Otherwise I would go with any number of sausages instead of just swine. And multiple eggs. One egg gets lost in a good hard roll. Now condiments are another matter and another debate. I do enjoy ketchup and hot sauce is always nice

someone beat me to it

Yes! Agree on the organic sourdough and my wife makes it. Also, we need carbs or I need carbs to make “things” move along nicely. I can’t eat as much pasta as I want because I have no shut off mechanism for linguine and clams. If I go too low carb well, we won’t talk about that.
