16..It was a colony.
18..Plants have three types of roots - tap, fibrous, and adventitious. Plants can also have a primary root and/or secondary roots. Most plants have roots which are in the ground. Some plants such as the Bald Cypress have aerating roots (aka knees) which rise above the ground and absorb oxygen from the air. Some plants have aerial roots (think epiphytes – orchids, Spanish moss, and bromeliads) which are never in the ground.

22. The Adventure (there's no "s" there) of Shoscombe Old Place, more notable for me because, in the BBC series with Jeremy Brett, it marks one of the very first screen appearances of Jude Law.

16. As Bigboote and SVCbeercats noted, I think Vermont was, briefly, independent. If I recall correctly, under British rule, it was part New Hampshire (New Hampshire Grants, maybe?), and part NY, with the dividing line being the crestline of the Green Mountains. This is part of the basis for Ethan Allen's quote "The Gods of the hills are not the Gods of the valley" (one of my faves, by the way). Just to muddy the primordial waters of Vermont further, many of the settlers came from Connecticut, including the Allens.

16..Pinot is pussyfooting around it, but it had a name.

20..You'd think Carnegie, as you did, but no. He was bought out by Schwab, Gary and particularly another(?) who handled the joining of 3 firms to make them into US Steel.

New Connecticut? The forefathers of New England lacked creativity and stuck "New" in front of everything. Such a homesick bunch.

14..Alex always has trouble getting a final answer out o VAUC, but he is right about ACLU.

16..Yes, SVC, this is a case of how the "New" is known to scare most posters, stuck in their ways as they are.

15..Rocket & K9 & Big enjoy coffee and Danish.

17..SoCal, Big and smartypants are all known to spend too much time there.

18..Like our Huskies, we play below the rim rootedness. Then along comes His Royal Airiness SVC to go above the rim. Ok, OK, I should have specified that we wanted to stay in the soil.

19..The VAUC identify Soul on Ice, probably about figure skating among the spirit world.

21..Yon Cassius had a lean and hungry look. Such men are dangerous, as Sonny found out. Lots of you here.

22..CHJ covers it, with both print and video.

23..Same, equal night from Latin--Game and Rocket and SVC.

24..Five of you have wrinkles. Hmm, that could be misconstrued.

25..Rocket, Game & Big know this production.

Thanks for playing. See you soon.
