Number 10 ranked Tenn just destroyed the tenacious unranked Missouri women team by 6 on the road with their season low offensive out put as they continue to Grind for 9! News at 11.

Missouri is usually pretty good at hitting their 3s. Not this game. Tennessee has a wonderful capacity to play poorly. They came close to losing this game.

Check out Margo with a special rant for "Mathew Mitchell". (This is great!)

Ya gotta love her. "A DANCE PARTY???"

The thing about Missouri is they shoot a lot of 3's. This game 7-32 17%

The lady vols are a hot mess at this point. If Simmons is still your leading scorer when you have all this other talent on your team something is very wrong. Yet Holly seemed very happy. Geno would have kicked the team off the court. What the hell are you doing with Russell she is 6 foot 6 for gods sake . Miz u is like 5 and 11 in the SEC. This would be like uconn beating Temple or Cincinnati by 6.

Holly is presumably happy/relieved to have survived a close game, circumstances notwithstanding. To her credit, Pat Summit would mostly not have been pleased. She was, however, very adept at keeping teams focused and prepared after losses and "bad wins".

Simmons is the number 6 leading scorer at Tennessee. She is only behind Holdsclaw, Gordon, Parker, Catchings, and Lawson.

And your point is, she shoot maybe twice as many shots and runs no offencer for your team. Not a team player and not a good point guard

I totally agree with your post here. There was nothing to like about our performance tonight, other than the fact that we lucked up and won against a team who played very well and I think deserved the win more. Mizzou had a heck of a gameplan, both offensively and defensively, but they were just missing shots. I can't understand for the life of me why Holly was happy with her team's performance. This coaching staff has absolutely instilled NO discipline in this team and that's why you continue to see the sloppy play and high turnover amount.

Simmons, for all the flack she gets, has kept us in games and if it wasn't for her, we would have many more losses than we do up to this point, or should I say Holly would have many more losses. And your right, we are loaded with talent, so why is Simmons the only one who is willing to take shots?? You have both Carter and Burdick dancin around and passing up wide open shots, yet they try to force the ball inside when the posts are covered and guess what?? Ya, turnover city almost every time. You leave a UCONN guard wide open like that, even for a second and they slam a three point shot down your throat. That's what I like about UConn and ND and some of the other good three point shooting teams. They are super aggressive and will take chances. I will say though that Russell looked pretty good tonight and I'm hoping she continues to play well for us..We are going to need her, that's if Holly can even see it..

I can't wait to wrap up the SEC on Thursday at home and then go to Knoxville with no pressure and kick their tails.

South Carolina has a great coach and is playing really well this year!! Glad to see a lot more parity in the SEC. If they can land Wilson, and I think they will, instant final four contender next year. Staley has done a great job building their program.

Impressive but I would love to see how many shots each of those players took.
Ok here are the numbers.
Holdsclaw FG 1,233 made 2,419 attempts 3's 36 made 144 attempts.
Gordon FG 1,017 made 1,985 attempts 3's 5 made 10 attempts.
Parker FG 797 made 1,482 attempts 3's 17 made 60 attempts.
Catchings FG 760 made 1,506 attempts 3's 122 made 366 attempts.
Lawson FG 675 made 1,475 attempts 3's 256 made 617 attemps.
Simmons FG 696 made 1,696 attempts 3's 242 made 699 attemps.
Looks like Holdsclaw took more shots.

Surely you understood the point?

Holdsclaw hit over 50% while Simmons hit 41%

To be fair, you expect a player who doesn't take a lot of threes to hit a higher percentage, but you can adjust for that by calcuating points per shot.

Here's what the numbers look like:
Holdsclaw 1.034312
Gordon 1.027204
Parker 1.087045
Catchings 1.090305
Lawson 1.088814
Simmons 0.963443

Which one looks like not the others?

Yes Simmons has shot more threes. Holdsclaw was a very gifted player. She could just take a game over. The three she could hit but she could just beat a defender for a good shot. I am not saying Simmons is a better overall player. Just that she is one of the best scorers at Tennessee.

Or just one of the most prolific shooters.

Thanks; classy post.

Ahhhh; statistics warm the cockles of my heart!

But scored a thousand more points.

There haven't been many players score 3,000 points. Parker may have if she had that fourth year. How many players have been better than Holdsclaw? Few if any. She was NCAA player of the century. Simmons still has a few games left. I think she will pass Lawson at 1,950 points. She did pass 1,900 in the game today.

I think the point being made here is that Simmons is a very incomplete player. Her scoring is offset by her shortcomings. Turnovers, little teamwork, poor shot selection, lack of defense, inability to play well in the clutch, etc. How many points she scores matters little in the face of these other factors.
