The stock of my employer is down a lot today. It's not NVDIA.
10-20+% drops: added bit of yours, NVDA & VRT to LT holds.

Possibilities (separate or combined): Deepseek overreaction? Pre-Lunar new year week markets close, CCP shorting US equities markets combined with CCP direction for mainland banks, pensions, etc to buy mainland stocks? Over leveraged retail trader margin calls? Potentially, bit of hedgy ¥ unwind cover to boot?

I have enough of mine and it's too close to end of Q to trade it now anyway. I bought NVDA several years ago (there was a post here somewhere) because I was testing the Nancy Pelosi portfolio. Sold it for a nice gain, but way too soon in hindsight.

I'm always overweight tech, but today's another good diversification lesson. Coke was up 3.14%. So was Apple (3.17). I many need to figure out why VSQTF was up 14.59% for me today. There's no news I can see. It's been a disaster until today.

This was a massive overreaction based on a claim that was clearly full of excrement.
Even if the claim is true it doesn't matter. All it means is that with even more powerful chips you can be that much more efficient with your horsepower. This seems so dumb

If you have 500 horsepower in a 5,000lb car and can be just as fast as 300 horsepower in a 3000lb car, why wouldn't you take the 500hp engine and put it in the 3000 lb car so long as you have the means to do it.

What Deepseek was able to accomplish at a fraction of the cost is incredible.

The market should be worried because they can continue to scale at a much cheaper cost.

NVIDIA still has an impressive product mix, but to achieve those metrics at that cost from a long term perspective is worrisome for US companies.

AI is still very new and there are many different types of LLM's that are being developed so the race is not won by any means, but the distance between the US and China just got incredibly tighter.

Let's see what OpenAI, Anthropic , Google and the others respond with. Chat GPT 5 should be rolling out this year

LOL at "fraction of the cost." They're lying.

If they used NVIDIA chips to achieve results, I would agree. We don't really know.

The reality is that they are here and although I haven't used the app, I've read only good things about Deepseek.

They are a threat to US companies.

A threat that won’t be acknowledged until they shut off our power and water.

For entertainment purposes, CNCT, up 10 million % today(Tuesday). OTCPK penny stock, closed Mon $0.00, closed Tues $200. Not a reverse split. Neglible volume normally, 700K shares exchanged Tues.

Cluster Group Holdings aka China Teletech Holding. No operations, just a shell company unless something unreported occurred. Purportedly, past lithium battery R&D and smart cards.

Chief mandarin researcher/spouse found nothing other than crap building shell company addresses in Shenzhen, Hong Kong and Shanghai. Quite a Lunar New Year hong bao (red envelope money gift). 10 million % in a day. ;)

My NASDAQ index fund made 30% in 2024.

I have almost no single stocks any more. I have both the NASDAQ and S&P 500 index funds as he bulk of my portfolio.

Can’t speak to the truthfulness of the deepseek paper, but I’m suspicious. We are seeing very good results using existing LLMs augmented with RAG libraries. I’m happy with the results. Regardless, no way I would let my companies data run on an LLM from China.

The last few years have been easy money. You could've thrown a dart at the Nasdaq and made money. Now we're entering the risk era, where one needs to adapt, rotate and play smart.

Don't
I think you're going to be surprised what they're going to achieve the next few years while we're distracted yelling at the moon. Thievery and corruption included, they're pulling ahead of us in tech and global influence. I've already made a bundle swing trading BABA.

Is AI all it’s cracked up to be? I thought Quantum was the real prize.

I took a try at US Steel a few months ago, I’m happy with my current position and I think there is room up. Anyone else jump on this? I should have shared the idea at the time.

I sell AI and it‘s a hot topic for almost everyone. It will be a a huge game changer, the question is when. I think our stuff is prime time depending on the use case. I also own NVIDIA still, and ASML In this space. Plus TQQQ which is a good way to cover all the bases, but it carries risk due to the 3x velocity. I doubt I’ll be alive when Quantum is mainstream but who knows.

AI is like when the internet started, and put it on steroids.

I think the winners will be those who can use AI and not use a disgusting amount of energy.
